I don't see this as a bad thing. What's the problem?? Cubans have done it for a long ****ing time. As long as they have two arms and two legs let's get on with it. Stop ur bitching its baaaaxing :deal
Incidentally, if this happens, it'll throw the way boxing works WAAAAY out of whack. There wouldn't be a clear dividing line between amateur and pro anymore, at least at the highest levels. Younger fighters' career trajectories would change, since professional champions would be waiting to grab the Olympic gold. Weirdest of all, the Olympics might be a better alternative to professional bouts in some ways. No ridiculous PPV, and the best in the world could (theoretically) compete against each other. I wonder if this will galvanize pro boxing to reform. Anyway, interesting development. It's going to screw boxing's organizational system up something fierce.
Why bother? This move will not be received well, guaranteed. Besides, after age 35 you are no longer be considered an amateur. So a bunch of rules are going to have to be bent for this i.O.C publicity stunt.
It would a disgrace if Wlad done that. What would he have to gain by fighting kids trying to go into boxing? My god why don't Wlad fight old ass Ali? Man Wlad is becoming more pathetic every day. Vitali is the man of the family. He is in the streets fighting a corrupt government while Wlad is talking about fighting kids.
What kind of achievement would it be for Wlad to win the gold medal now?? it would mean sweet f all. If he were to win and go through it would just be wat was expected nothing special about it. just coz Wlad says he's going for it in Rio still doesn't mean a lot of the top pro guys will enter and I'd say it will be safe to say that in Rio it will still be pretty similar to London Olympics or like the recent Am world champs where the head gear was removed with most boxers in late teens or early 20's. Wlad winning an olympic gold now would mean nothing at all! also as said before in this thread, would Wlad have been cool with fighting the likes of Lennox Lewis or Evander Holyfield or Mike Tyson etc when he was 19 and at the oympics back in 1996??
Wlad is going to give 20-25 year olds brain damage. Fighting in the amateurs/olympics is nowhere near the level of fighting the undisputed pro world champion. This isn't going to be pretty.
As long as the scoring is the 10 point must system, and the officiating and rules are pro style, I have no problems with it. However the OP needs to realize that if Wladimir competes in the Olympics, he will likely be competing against fellow top 30 professional HW's.
So, basically, recent pro-debuters like Lomachenko are the only guys currently fighting that would be eligible by the time 2.5 years pass? Almost all pro boxers haven't fought a top 20 guy inside their first 15 fights and if they have then they were the B side and almost certainly lost.
Dear CHEF: You could have easily sounded smart in this thread. Somehow, you said things (including lies/exaggerations) that manage to make you look like a fool.
It's not just the experience that sets pro's apart, it's the money and resources they have at their disposal too. Many amateur fighters come from pretty humble training environments.
Before everyone gets their knickers in a twist, only WSB and APB pro boxers will retain eligibility for Olympics unless AIBA changes eligiblity criteria.
If Wlad wants to go to the Olympics, he should compete in Greco Roman Wrestling. Boxing requires throwing punches
I have read that it's possible the pros will fight in Olympics. I have all of Vitali and Vlad's fights, including Vlad's fight for the gold medal in Atlanta, GA back in 1996. Vlad throws lots of punches, his jab is harder than most heavyweights' right hand...............
