Completely agree with Louis also. That's why I favour him over all but one fighter. He has proved time and time again that when required, he can patiently stalk without expending much energy for 13 rounds, taking the one shot when it presents itself.

The only man I don't think he'd beat is the one man I don't think can be knocked out: Ali. Everything about Lai's career tells me he's the most "un-knockoutable" boxer in history.

I think Louis would certainly drop him but I don't think anyone in history (to date) has the necessary toold to knock Ali out.

I thnk Louis is the only man who could potentially stop Ali, but I wouldn't favor it. He has the best shot. And if Louis isn't stopping Ali, nobody is.

Who Louis beat to make you guys think that he has a better chance than anyone at stopping Wlad?

    Abe Simon?
    Primo Carnera?
    Buddy Baer?

I dont think any of these guys are anywhere near as physically or technically good as Wlad.

Because Joe Louis is the greatest HW finisher of all time.

When facing one of the lowest levels of Heavyweight opposition of all time.

Faced more Hall of Famers and lineal Champions than any HW Champion in history. Provide an analysis as to why all these recognized greats of the sport are so bad that Louis' greatness should be questioned.

Louis is a master of landing the right over the jab as well.

I never once questioned his greatness. I questioned your over rating of his head to head ability which i think is unjust.

It becomes much easier to have a lot of wins over lineal champs when you have 5 different ones in as many years

Ali has wins over 5 lineal champions with a span of 14 years between the wins, i find that more impressive.

Evander Holyfeild has wins over 7 lineal champions, after moving up from a different weight class.

Louis may well have been a great finisher, but he wouldn't be able to finish anything if he's outboxed for the bouts duration, which is a strong possibility

    :thumbsup:thumbsup

Joe "Bum of teh Month" Louis would NOT do anywhere near as good as George "teh cheen" Chuvalo did in 1966. :bbb

Ali would dance around teh slow-plodder And taunt him with flurries - then KTFO Glass Joe with a combo in teh Round he chose, for the show. :mj

Sell me on Ali and Holyfiled when I question their boxing ability.

What do you want from Louis? He finished great boxers, great fighters, great brawlers, just plain durable tough guys..the results were the same, once he had them hurt, they were done. Walcott, Schemling, Conn, Primo..all good to great technicians. Braddock, Godoy, and Max Baer were never dropped before..etc.. Simon and Galento never down before..etc. His finishing credentials match up well with any fighter in history. IF your just of the opinion fighters filmed in black and whtie are of subpar qualiy, I can't help you anymore.

    You got me.
I hate all fighters filmed in black and white.
Said to the man with the Tunney avatar.

Again your talking about him finishing boxers who are considered great, i would not argue with that, i just do not think anyone he beat was as good H2H as the opposition of most other ATG heavyweights.

Louis beat the best fighters from 1930 to 1950. We're not just talking one era, we're talking multiple.

He knocked almost everyone out facing a large array of styles.

He could blitz, he could stalk, he could wear down, he come from behind, he could do it all.

I don't think there's been a fighter yet that could stop ali and there likely never will.

But wlad has been essentially ended by one counter shot against sanders and he's gassed in two other fights. At some point he'll make a mistake, when he does, louis will end him.

I dont disagree that he achieved a lot and was technically and athletically superior to almost every man he fought.

But does he have a better chance than anyone else at stopping Ali or Wlad?

    Pishh.

Than who do you feel is a more proven finisher? Who do you think is better at sneaking the right cross over the jab?

Tyson is a fantastic finisher, maybe the next best, but I still can't put him on par with Louis. And I don't like Tyson's chances of stopping fighters like Ali and Wlad who can possibly survive and extend themselves into later rounds. That didn't matter agianst Louis, as shown against Conn and Walcott..equally deadly at any point in the match.

I wander if you would like to argue Lennox as a superior finisher. Quite good in his own right, but if making the competition argument won't do you much good if we are contrasting him to Joe Louis. I seem to recall Evander badly hurt several times, and Lewis not going for the kill "A man is his most dangerous..when he's hurt" is how he responded to that criticism. Joe Louis would never say that. Louis never had to say that.
