"Wladimir Klitschko, fresh from humiliating 41-year-old Ray Mercer on June 29, has challenged Lewis not only to a fight, but to a game of chess, Lewis' professed passion.

Lewis' response--that Klitschko is "not tough enough" and "it would be a waste of my time to go fight him"--could be a hint at retirement. Or it could be a challenge for the upstart's promoters to show Lewis the money.

Klitschko's response was brash but logical. He accused the champ of "looking for an excuse not to fight me," and added, "If Lennox will not retire, who does he want to fight next?""

    "
    This content is protected
after the Ukranian retained his WBO heavyweight title against Jameel McCline in Las Vegas.

Klitschko dropped McCline late in the 10th round and won the fight when the American's corner refused to allow him to continue.

Klitschko is regarded as the biggest challenge remaining for Britain's WBC and IBF world champion Lewis, who has announced a three-fight plan - taking on Klitschko's brother, Vitali, in March, and Mike Tyson in a rematch before a unification showdown with Klitschko, the 1996 Olympic gold medallist."

^ Of course after Lewis / Vitali 1, that 3-fight plan went down faster than the Titanic.

Briggs was close to do doing a McCall and Rahman. Prime Wlad would have way too much, hits much harder than all these guys. You saw his single shot power vs Joshua age 41.

Wlad may have wanted the fight at the time but his promoters and his assistant trainer Tommy Brooks didn't want it, they didn't think he was ready and needed another 2-3 fights. That's what was said by the commentary team before Wlad/Mercer. And we all know Wlad got KO'ed a couple of fights after Mercer. So in reality Wlad's team never attempted to make Wlad/Lewis even though Wlad was his mandatory, he clearly wasn't ready.

    Way ahead of you:

"In order to get a shot at Lennox Lewis, Wladimir Klitschko not only has to impress the media and fans, but his own very cautious promoters who would rather wait. He wants it sooner than later when Lewis might not be around."

    Larry Merchant @ 7:00 - 7:13 Klitschko / Mercer

My point is to lay to rest the idea that Wlad was somehow scared of Lewis which is patently untrue.

Where was Wlad?? He was busy trying to hold back and simmer down Vitali because Vitali was right up in Lewis' ****ing face demanding a rematch and making sure Lennox was understanding that he demanded one.

Did you not see that?! Maybe your old memory is vague? Vitali wanted that 2nd fight. There was nothing Wlad could do about it. Lol

Exactly. If Rahman and McCalls right hands were too much for Lewis... the faster, straighter and harder right from Wlad would DEFINITELY have been. Not to mention Wlad's jab and hook.

This dumb **** of Lewis "Going right through" Wladimir is really really dumb.

Not only was he scared of Lewis , he was scared of Briggs and Tua as well.

There's good reason why this guy never faced anybody from the top 5 till TEN years after he turned pro.
