Fighting in front of your home town is a disadvantage somehow and an excuse for losing?

I don't think Buddy Baer wins, but I have to give you props for coming up with some incredibly bizarre mental gymnastics to defend your favorite fighters.

Ross Purrity lost 13 times when he beat Wladmir.

Wlad stops him in the middle or late rounds

Wlad went undefeated for 10 years fighting the best the division had to offer (minus his brother). Someone remind me why Baer even belongs in a conversation with him?

I think Wladimar Klitchko has too much skill for the slow lumbering Buddy Baer, who very large is tough but Klitchko would totally dominate, Klitchko by KO 8. Baer would not be fighting Marshall Dillon as he did and get beat up in Gunsmoke.

I was at the urinal, in The Berghoff Bar, fussing with my lederhosen. I'd been manhandled by Mrs. Glouschstermeier-AGAIN-and I was hot under the collar. "Piranhas!" I pushed through my clenched teeth, realizing I had a giant cyclops standing next to me in the urinal to the right. That cyclops was attached to Buddy J. Baer. "It's pronounced...pee-rawon-yuss." he sneered, turning toward me, still urinating. I was drenched, shaking, and feeling far more violated than Mrs. Glouschstermeier made me feel with her significantly less on-the-nose physicality. The truth of the matter was that I was yellow, at that point, and I just didn't have the guts to do anything.

He'd made me his something or other and I did nothing about it but stand there and blink and drip-drop-drip in front of him. "You in a coma, Nancy?!" Baer asked me, in a very chauvinistic tone. So, I kicked him in the chest and when I stumbled backward into the paper towel dispenser I ran like the devil. I may have been yellow, but I could fight dirty and run pretty fast. Big dumb jerk. Would Wlad have done the same thing? I don't know. That's why H2H threads are valuable-to suss these things out with other people who also think about them. Anyway, don't touch your face.

Sure, that point is pretty much unanswerable. The question (to me at least) is if it's realistic to think he could pull off an upset like Purity or Sanders or Brewster. I think it's unlikely, but not wildly so. (Maybe a 5-15% chance.)

Since I assume you are going to take Buddy at his best, can we take Wlad at his best, during the ten year stretch when he ruled the division... and not choose his earlier, reckless years? Ten years of domination offers a lot of spectrum of a prime.

I dimly remember seeing that show in reruns as a kid. (It was one of my dad's favorite shows when he was a kid.):pancarta: But I don't remember an episode where he got in a fistfight with marshal Dillon. I wonder how big he looked next to James Arness, who I think was about Baer's size.

Sure that's fair, and modifies the probability significantly. (I just mean subjectively probability, not probability in any rigorous sense.) If it's Wlad post-Steward, that pushes it to the lower end of my estimate and indeed quite possibly well below 5%.
But what if Baer gets a Steward of his own?

For a decade, better fighters weren't able to pull the trick. Meanwhile, Wlad barely lost a round and stopped the vast majority.

I knew that James Arness was approximately 6"6, so I think that Buddy Baer was about the same size but wider. Marshall Dillon did not come out of that fistfight unmarked. It was on the early half hour episodes maybe from 1956. The old black and white episodes, saw it a few weeks ago and saw the credits.

That's the most likely outcome. But if it weren't it's the difference between being surprised and shocked. I'd be quite surprised, but still pretty far from shocked.

More interesting question: Would Buddy Baer be one of Wlad's 10 best wins? 15 best?

Buddy Baer was 6'6 250 pounds of pure punching power and boxing ability.

He'd be his top win if he could beat him.
