Klitchko. I love Schmeling and I have a great deal of respect for him inside and outside of the ring but if you watch his fight with Baer he was really troubled by Baers size. Klitchko was a LOT bigger than Baer and a lot more refined.

Definitely Klitschko. The way to get past Max was to make it physical. He was the superior boxer to Max Baer, but got out muscled. His rematch with Louis ended fast because Joe came out guns-blazing. Wlad is just too much physically for him.

Max is one of my favorites, but I have to go with Wladimir here. Max is not proven enough against such a giants and Wladimir knew how to use his size better than anyone.

    Wladimir by KO.

In many ways Wlad is Schmeling 2.0 and would probably take him out inside 6 rounds. Wlad has too much range,
power, and size. I'd give Schmeling a puncher's chance, not more than 1 in 4.

I know...its so obvious that Schmeling wins this one via stoppage

I don't see any similarities, outside of that both were very smart fighters and hit very strong for their sizes.

I think if you look closely they both have big right hands and know how to set it up. They also were smart fighters, and had suspect chins to power punchers. At least I think they are comparable in style and a pound for pound sense.

    I agree with that..
    ... but disagree with that:

    1. Schmeling didn't have suspect chin at all, he was stopped only twice in his prime by Joe Louis and Max Schmeling, two of the best punchers ever. He could take the punch quite well based on footage we have too.
    2. Klitschko relied a lot more on clinching and mauling than Schmeling. He also used his jab more and better. Max was more of a counterpuncher with excellent head movement.

Wlad does extremely well against smaller technical fighters. They're trying to fight his game with a huge weight and reach disadvantage. He keeps them on the end of his jab and mauls them in the clinch if they somehow close the gap. Klitschko would probably knock Max out, in fact, for Schmeling's sake I hope he does it early or he's going to look a mess by the end of the fight.

If Schmeling beat Carnera, I would pick him to beat Wlad.

Carnera was just as big as Wlad.
