It's time this stopped. I understand that with time memories fade, and it's very much a 'what have you done for me lately' kind of mentality, especially on social media and internet forums, but seeing Wlad Klitschko rated all-time top ten and even higher is an insult to the memory of some legitimately great heavyweight boxers of years gone by.

Klitschko is by all accounts a decent guy, (although rumours of the kind of contracts his opponents have to sign leave a lot to be desired) but his record is a victory for statistics over accomplishment.

It may just be possible to forgive a great fighter a KO loss in his prime to one of either Corrie Sanders or Lamon Brewster, but both of them is pushing it hard, and another stoppage defeat to tough but extremely limited Ross Puritty makes all argument redundant. His long unbeaten run looks impressive until you look at the opposition. It isn't weak, it's absolutely feeble.

Seriously, who do you rate as his best victory? Alexander Povetkin? David Haye? Kubrat Pulev? Ignore the fact that Klitschko would have been DQ'd by anything other than a friendly ref against Povetkin, forget that both he and Haye were bordering on pacifism for most of their fight, and don't mention that Pulev wobbled him with a jab, that three would lose to Frank Bruno, let alone a Jerry Quarry or Ron Lyle.

What Wladimir Klitschko personifies is the total decline of heavyweight boxing, not some modern day superhero to be compared to genuine legends of the sport's history.

I think he's an all-time great (top 10) ukrainian fighter.

He definitely belongs in the top 10, though I would rate him towards the tail end of that 10. I agree he shouldn't have lost those 3 fights against the competition that he did, but that was also when he was a different style of fighter. The fighter who he is now is what is making people regard him as a top 10 great. I couldn't see the Klitschko of today dropping fights to any of the guys he lost to in his younger years, though Sanders would have always been a dangerous fight for him.

History will prove him to be no ATG

I remember when I was young watching a box set of all the Heavyweight greats and how it made me want to be a boxer.

Will the kids of the future look at Klitschko fights and say the same thing? I highly doubt it.

What I mean is his greatest fights don't even belong in the same ball park as the ATG's. Which fights of his can you say that of?

He does not even beat bums well.

He beat Chris Byrd to become champ. Take a look at Byrds record going into the fight.

Won a vacant portion of the title off Holyfield who had a blown out shoulder.

    Defended it against

    - Fres Oquendo. Lost the fight. Won because he was a Don King Fighter.

-Andrew Golota. A draw. Really lost the fight. Won because he was a Don King Fighter.

-Jameal Macline. Lost the fight. Won because he was a Don King Fighter.

    - Williamson. Worst HW bout ever. Lost the fight. Won because he was a Don King Fighter.

At this point , going into fight Wlad , he is shot to bits and the movement that made him what he was is completely gone. He had no legs. He was past it.

Wlad beats this guy to call himself champ.

A guy who wasn't a factor in the previous era when he was at his best and in his prime.

How does this win make you an ATG?

Lets look at performances ? In what fight did Wlad look like an ATG?

He tanked it against the best guy he fought and deserved to be DQ'd.

This wasn't no fight of the years like genuine ATGs have on their dossier. That fight did the sport more harm than good.

Who was the second best guy he fought? Sanders. 2 round blow out loss. Wanted no part of rematch.

Genuine greats take the rematch and over turn the result .

    Verdict.

    ATG . Yes/No?

    No.

Wlad's greatest achievement is dominating the list of fighters you pick to beat him.

He's barely lost a round in 10 years. How is that not beating his opponents well?

It's not all about aesthetics or being an exciting brawler.
