You guys just don't understand how speed works. Mass equals force which is made manifest as speed. There is no way he is *not* faster, and by some distance. This is a matter of physics and that is my arena. So, let's not be stepping into my arena unless we are too a gladiator. Kthanksbye.
Williamson and Fury prove he wouldn't have a hope. Gets beaten just like Bugner did. No guy with a minimal output like Wlad is beating Ali. Wlad never gets the opportunity to throw, nevermind land. There's a reason he tried to fight Fury on an illegal bouncy canvas. Movers are his Kryptonite.
Your trying to say because of Wlad's size/height his punches will actually land quicker even though he doesn't look as fast by the eye assuming.
We’re not talking about physics. We’re not talking about on a P4P basis. There is no way that Wlad was much faster than a prime Ali. Just go and pull the footage. We don’t need a physics evaluation. Just look at Ali’s hand speed and combination punching. A prime mid to late 60’s Ali, before the ban, was faster than any version of Wladamir. Faster hand speed. Faster reflexes. Faster feet. It’s very clearly visible and noticeable. He was smaller, lighter and faster. He would have had a significant speed advantage, in an actual H2H fight.
Wlad easily walks him down. If Doug Jones can almost outbox him than he has no chance to outbox Wlad. You need to be a very big puncher to beat Wlad - Ali isn't.
It’s nothing to do with a lie. It’s about how relevant it is. That was a very young version of Ali, against a very mobile fighter, of the same size. That has no relevance between a H2H fight against prime versions of Ali and Wlad. Completely different fighters. Completely different stylistic match ups. If that’s your specific example, then you could name a 100 HW’s who’d have been favoured over Ali. There’s far more to look at than that. I could say that based purely on the Fury fight, where Fury had no fire power but great movement, that Ali could have: Out manouvered him. That he could have beaten him to the punch, where he could have had him buying and reacting to all of his feints. That he could have done a complete psyche job on him, where Wlad would have been extremely cautious.
Boxed Ears has been doing some sarcastic posts recently - I'm sure he's parodying - he's used the man's wife as a verification of his insane speed. Only fighters faster were Bobby Fitz, but he's gotta weigh 167 lbs, Tokyo Douglas, Limousine Drop Kick Holmes and Sunday Buffet Butterbean served with french toast and rum punch.
Well part of the problem for Ali is that he was quite the clincher himself, and that he has no chance trying to wrestle and tire Wlad who is significantly heavier and taller and made draping himself like a table cloth over the little guys his 'thing'. Ali isn't going to slug with Wlad, because I don't think he has the firepower and Wlad for sure has the much bigger cannons in the matchup. So what is Ali going to do? Try to out-jab the master jabber? Wlad has the advantage here too. Ali is going to have to use his speed and try to get in and out, potshotting or using quick 1-2s. He's probably the fastest guy Wlad would have fought, so it's not hopeless, but he's going to be the one expending a ton of energy while trying to be a ghost all night. The obvious Wlad counter to this is his footwork. Wlad's EE style involves stepping back when under pressure, and that will make the amount of time that Ali spends in the danger zone longer. It will reduce the kinds of angles Ali can run on him and turn the fight into the head-on jabfest that Wlad loves. I discount the comparisons between Fury and Ali. Ali is a midget next to Fury. However, a ray of sunshine for Ali would be the rumours that Usyk gave (an admittedly older) Wlad all he could handle in sparring. While they are not exactly the same fighter by any means, Usyk would need to get inside Wlad's jab and then out again the same as Ali. This merely illustrates that it might be possible.
There’s an awful lot to look at. Personally, I’d have given a younger, more vulnerable version of Wlad a better chance. How confident would Wlad have been? How cautious? How offensive minded and agressive? We can’t discount the Tyson fight. Because Ali wasn’t a small man, and Tyson made him ultra cautious with his feints etc. He also made him act completely out of character in the build up.
