This. And also that we should never believe the hype about a fighter until he has faced real competition. I've been pretty annoyed at all the talk about Price -who had never fought anybody with a pulse- and to a lesser extent Fury (though he does have 2 decent names on his record).

I've got friends who all thought I was mad for not jumping on the Price bandwagon. Yet it was so obvious to me that he had not been tested yet, and had many questions to answer.

The fact is, he had only ever knocked out a few bums. Most heavyweights have a similar winning streak, but Price was lauded as the next big thing because he was British, and we have a tendency to get overexcited about every fighter we produce.

Audley Harrison had a longer winning streak, and look at him now!

very big step up, odd punch

    it happens at heavyweight

i think everybody underestimated a guy who gave Wlad fits for 7 or 8 rounds

Thompson did a lot right in fight 1 and i knew he was just too much after looking at who Price has fought

i picked in the pick em league Thompson by stop in 5, it was a little shorter

this could be a fluke, time will tell

erm, how does this make Wlad look good? Price is a much better fighter than Thompson, it's just his chin is the worst you'll ever see. had thompson of given him a boxing lesson and then KO'd him, then there would be something to discuss. but that never happened.

the chin is the problem for Price, but in every other category, he's better than most in the division.

Thompson still remains a bag of ****. it wasn't a good win for Wlad. it doesn't make the win look any better.

most had doubts about the chin of Price... we now know it's hideous. so the Wlad fans can go to sleep. Thompson was always a bum, and he still is.

    sorry.

you talk about price's weakenesses but you don't give TT the credit he deserves. nor is he a bum. he's an awkward fighter, even for wlad. crouching tiger hidden thompson

Thompson in his prime stopped former European HW champ and Olympic bronze medalist Luan Krasniqi in his own backyard in Germany. Then went on to lose a 11 round stoppage to Wlad after winning 2-3 rounds, more than most top contenders who lost to Wlad during the last couple of years.

Being ranked in the HW top 10 and mixing it up in there pretty much destroys your "Thompson was always a bum" theory.

Thompson is a deceptively good fighter, but until last night didn't really have the big wins to prove it. He's not fast, not particularly strong, doesn't possess endless reserves of stamina or an iron chin, yet more often than not finds a way to win. He's like this era's John Ruiz. Ugly but effective. His win over Price is great for his career, but it also allows us to view him in a more fitting light. He's a world class fighter who's never going to look great but will, nine times out of ten, come up trumps against the best in the division.

Thompson is a bag of ****? Tony KO'd Luan Krasniqi, who was a well respected boxer. You don't beat good boxers if you're a bag of ****.........

Well said. Tony doesn't have great speed or great footwork but he does have a good jab, nice combinations and natural size. I rank his chin as well above average, but not unbreakable. His power is above average as well.
