Shavers is as about a live underdog as you will see. He's also a man prone to gassing and fairly easy to outmanouver. But I honestly think Shavers has a chance early, but after that he's gonna get the jab treatment and either get worn out and stopped or stopped early by Wlads right hand. But TheGreatA makes a great case; Shavers landed on Ali and Holmes; not quite as bug but better fighters than Wlad; also with quality jabs. I think Shavers gets a raw deal at times because he was so basic, but every time I see him create an oppurtunity and BAM lower the boom on Holmes I feel it. And then marvel at Holmes itelligence as he quickly regains his senses; pretending to engage Earnie and slipping the inevitable follow-up, clinching, and then sorting himself. Awesome.
In boxing, especially heavyweight boxing, and especially with someone who hits as hard as Shavers, there is no such thing as "no chance". Also, Shavers is a better boxer than guys like Sam Peter, who hardly ever jabbed and still caught Wlad 3 times.
Well, if we're going down that road then it's only fair to mention that Shavers could bang a bit as well. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=chIurKnmX60[/ame]
A post-Lamon Brewster I Klitschko 2006-10 with that cautious jabbing style beats him (the guy looked terrified against Ibragimov of all people) plus that straight right hand could spell the end at any time; Earnie hit hard but didn't have a very good chin. Still has one heckuva puncher's chance though.
Shavers on the end of the jab and easy to hit, I see a KO by Vlad. Can Shavers get lucky he would have to get real lucky. Shavers to easy to handle at the end of Vlad jab until Vlad feels he is ripe
Good god, Wlad by murder. Shaver is a guy who lost 22 of twenty three rounds he fought agaisnt Holmes, was beaten by a late-career, badly faded Ali, stopped by Quarry in 1, and stopped by Lyle. His reputation comes from the Holmes knockdown, the Norton fight, and a quote from ALi on how hard he hit. Dos anyone think that given his size disadvantage and lack of finesse that he could get in though Wlad's jab to land a bomb? Does anyone think that given relatively weak chin that he could take Wlad's right?
I feel Vlad is a much superior fighter and should easily handle Earnie but forget size, Earnie had a heavyweight punch that could change a fight. I dont think he would be able to get close to the present Vlad but there are freaky smal guys like Mike Weaver, Marciano,Langford,Tyson and Shavers that hit like as well as any Big man
Not having nearly the same power as Shavers, Eddie Chambers for instance still had a very accurate and fast sneaky right that he landed frequently on every opponent he fought, still couldn't time Wlad with it at all. Lennox Lewis-"Chambers has a good right hand, it comes really quick and really straight." I could be over w/ the first good MISS by Earnie. Even his misses were enough to crack that glassjaw.
