Wlad Klitschko vs Earnie Shavers

Wlad would be extremely safety first against the highly dangerous Shavers, carefully control him with the jab and stop a tired Earnie close to the final bell. Shavers could of course potentially floor Wlad with one of his best right hands if he can land on him, but Wlad has a record of getting up many times and one could equally say that it would just take a big left hook or straight right from Wlad to knockdown Shavers.

 

Earnie doesn't have the whiskers to absorb the Klitschko shots. And Wlad's jab has a way of busting people up as well.

Shavers is the rare guy that dips down to launch his big shots. Almost everyone else rises up. The problem with this opponent is that he'll be a mile away and trajectory of a right right would have to be much higher as well.
Shavers didn't throw a looping right hand but dipped and fired when he got low. The Klitschko footwork/physical size/mobility/jab are not going to give Earnie time to plant his feet in that pocket he needs to launch from.

And I sure don't see the Shavers defense handling a straight as an arrow non telegraphed right hand from Wlad very well. 2 or 3 clean right hands and it'd be all over for Shavers. I just cannot picture the Shavers defense holding up for 5 rounds.

 

Older heavyweights cannot compare with the Klitchko size or Lennox. Just too big. Equal size is different if you could make them the same height and weight.

 

Fights like this featuring Earnie Shavers are silly to predict one way or another.
We know Shavers really "only" has the puncher's chance, but it's a massive chance against a man like Wlad, so it's ridiculous to say he has "no chance" or a "slim chance".
On the other hand, Wlad is still the better boxer, and is capable of dicatating the fight, avoiding the danger and looking superior.
It would be rash to predict either scenario over the other.

 

Shavers had a massive punch but slim chance. he had no way to deliver his punch against man like Wlad. Nor did he have solid chin to wait for opportunity.
