As I've done stated, Povetkin did get shots off on the way in, they were mostly blocked or fell short because his Gazelle punches were telegraphed and not set up with good movement. The clinching had nothing to do with that. Povetkin shouldn't have ducked his head into Wlad's groin if he wanted to work the body. For the last time, I will point out that Calvin Brock did some rib damage despite Wlad trying his best to lay on him. Have you ever seen a sustained body attack from Povetkin againt anyone? He's set in his Olympic ways.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Y6ZEchHTOw You could argue Brock won the first 4 rounds in this fight, he outlanded Wlad by a huge margin, and this is not the result of them fighting in the USA as Klitschko is doing just as much wrestling and clinching as he normally does without penalty. What happened is that Brock did a good job of getting under the jab in those early rounds, but instead of head hunting and lunging at his chin like Povetkin, he fired the right cross into Wlad's ribs. He also knew how to handle himself in the clinch, instead of ducking low and accepting the lean, he fights for position and sneaks in body shots. He bruised up Wlad's side pretty good, and thus far is the only fighter to convincingly take multiple rounds from the Steward polished Wlad. He forces Wlad to turn up the gas in Round 5, who is forced to use foot work avodi Brock and catch him with the jab. Brock couldn't keep the movement up and started getting tagged with the 1-2..and it was only a matter of time. However, in the early rounds Brock laid down a sound strategy that other pressure fighters should follow, and as I mentioned in others threads, hoped Povetkin would. Quit crying for Povetkin, his own incompetence doomed him.
