Holmes is the only one of those names you mentioned that I think Wlad would beat. It's purely because there has been all this **** recently saying Wlad is the GOAT that I wanted to see how many people would give him a shot at beating the most winnable of those fights. A 40% to 60% vote doesn't seem like it's a stupid question to me. I don't think Wlad beats a prime Foreman, Frazier or Holyfield either.
Holyfield would be a sitting duck for Vitali or Vlad and Frazier also. Foreman was too slow, wide with him punches. Perhaps Holyfield will get to fight Vitali or Vlad now. Never know. Vitali and Vlad are the best out there, by far.
not sure about his chin but shaver's punch was supposedly the hardest hitting of all time...holmes said in the doc. 'champions forever' that he hit so hard you had to get up
We are talking about Prime Holmes, the Homes from the Norton and Shavers fights. The one that fought Spinks was already a faded version. Also, Spinks and Wlad have nothing in common style wise as Spinks was a very unortherdox boxer. You are just underestimating Holmes who is a TOP 5 ATG hehvayweight. Holmes is just the better and more natural fighter than Wlad who fights very robotic.
Major failage. I've seen those fights with my own eyes, I didn't just read that **** on boxrec. In fact I watched Holmes vs. Cobb with my uncle Fred in Brooklyn to be exact. I remember Howard Cosell saying what a travesty that fight was and how Tex didn't desaerve a shot. Are you saying Tex Cobb was a better opponent than Ibragimov? Iggy would **** Tex up.....................
Wlad has never been in the ring with the likes of Norton, Shavers, Witerspoon, Spinks, Weaver. IMO, Holmes beat Spinks clearly in the second fight. Holmes was a terrific fighter, Top 5 ATG heavyweight. The 40+ year old version of Holmes beat Mercer and gave prime Hol all he could handle. At 45, Holmes gave McCall a very tough fight. That must give you an indication how good Holmes was in his prime.
McCall was not a world beater, it was an acomplishment for Holmes but Francesco Damiano was outpointing Mercer and McCall and Damiani was no Willie Pep...Jesse Furgeuson outpointed Mercer...depended if he could concentrate or was fit but Mercer was hot and cold....Lets remember Jesse Furgeson was 18-9 going into that fight and it was only months after the Holmes loss...Mercer lost UD then the rematch was a SD for Mercer and around that time Mercer drew with Marion Wilson....McCall was outpointed by Orlin Norris,Tony Tucker,Frank Bruno,Buster Douglas, Mike Hunter and some say his fight with Lionel Butler could have went either way....Lets not take away from the fact that Holmes won at the advanced age but these guys could be outboxed. I think Vlad and Vitali would walk through Norton...Weaver was open to getting hit but he was 18-9 when he faced Holmes and almost won but Larry would not get back in the ring with him...he may have a punchers chance against anyone but Larry did not fight the improved version...Shavers was another who could never win the Big ones ( Norton could not Beat a puncher)...Witherspoon struggled to boring SDs in most of his wins (who other than a young Bruno and often KO'd Gonzales did he ko) he was hardly in shape and had zero stamina in a fast paced bout. And do you really think Spinks would stand a chance vs Vitali or Vlad.......I do not think Norton last 2 rounds vs Vlad or Vitali...Shavers may get into the 5th...Weaver would have the best shot but the Jabs of the Klitschko's would open Mike up for some big hooks and right hands...8th rd........KLitchko's handle those guys...in fact Ibragimov,Thompson,Brock,Gomez,Peter, are problems in the 80's and would proberly all beat Witherspoon,Shavers,Norton or at least are as good
The point was that Holmes at his advanced age fought very well against world class competition. IMO, the 80's guys had more skill than today's heavyweights. Wlad - Shavers would be big question mark. Wlad's shaky skin against the hardest punching heavyweight of all time who does not need a flush shot to KO Wlad. I favour Norton over Wlad, the hard punching Norton would put the pressure on and eventually get to Wlad.Witherspoon - Wlad would be very competitive.
Larry Holmes along with Muhammad Ali had one thing that separated him from other great champions........ a massive heart. Holmes defines the word "champion" He was a true champion with heart a plenty. Holmes is on another level to Wladimir. Wladimir has skills, but he does not have the make up and a true champion/elite fighter. The heart/determination/chin/ring generalship/speed etc.
Norton -wlad is no competition. Do you realize a size advantage? Wlad actually bigger then Forman that looked twise bigger then norton when they fought. Wlad-norton = Wlad-brock. Witherspoon is no competition realy.
Are people seriously saying Wlad would beat Larry Holmes? Heyzeus. I don't think Wlad gets blown out or anything like that but I have a hard time envisioning him winning this.
Really, the Ken Norton that fought Larry Holmes would give Wlad a life and death struggle. I pick Norton to win this one and please do not compare Brock to the HOF Ken Norton.
