go watch at a Holmes clip, he doesn't have t-rex arms like Wlad does. that 81' measures the shoulder width as well as the length of the arms, it's called a wingspan. Holmes has the same wingspan yet longer arms.
Larry Holmes by decision or late TKO. I can't see Wlad even with his height and reach advantage out jabbing Larry.
I find it amusing that anyone can say it would be an easy win for either fighter. Both champions are highly skilled and it would be highly competitive until the end. Interesting that Wladimir is experiencing much of the same disrespect now that Holmes did during his reign. Everyone was waiting for someone to come in and clean up the division not appreciating that they had an all-time great in front of them. Similar situation with Lennox Lewis as well.
Excellent post and 100% true. Absolutely NONE of my Tyson fan boxing friends appreciated Lennox Lewis & NO ONE AT ALL liked Larry Holmes.
Exactly, people talk about the best knock outs of all time, but Holmes getting up from that shot from Shavers in their second fight has got to be one of the best get ups of all time, how he survived that shot I don't know, even Shavers himself looked shocked to see Holmes get back to his feet. Holmes showed tremendous powers of recovery, resilience and heart, as well as skill to go on and win the fight.
Every one forgot that only those fighter who staid outside gave prime holmes a trouble. Renaldo ****ing snipes who is smaller than holmes had a great chance to Ko him. With wlad power and not lesser hand speed will be a serious fight for Holmes.
Wladimir Klitschko has one thing that Larry doesn't have, that these guys are forgetting, serious punching power. Larry couldn't even KO Tex Cobb! Holmes was very susectable to the right hand, which just happens to be Wlad's money punch.
Sad isn't it. In fact I would say that Holmes was the most disrespected champ in history. Who would've guessed then that in 25+years' time a lot of people who have barely seen him fight would be hailing him as some sort of boxing God on the internet. I think about that ever time I see the inevitable 'this is a prime Larry Holmes we're talking about here' in a given thread. If that same guy was around 30 years ago chances are he was calling Holmes a bum.
Holmes has something WALDO doesn't have - a great chin, as has been pointed out before this kind of levels the playing field somewhat. As for Tex Cobb, WALDO couldn't even KO Ibragimov and struggled with club fighter Peter :rofl:rofl:rofl Easy to **** on someones record, you could say the same with Lewis for failing to KO little Mavrovic...if you just look at Boxrec as opposed to watching the fights :hey The right hand isn't WALDOS money punch, the jab is - and Holmes wouldn't be lacking in a jabbing contest. Holmes would stop WALDO late, and outbox and embarrass VITLAY.
Actually as I remember it Holmes got plenty of respect as champion until his ill-advised remarks about Marciano, think it was after he lost the first Spinks fight. Certainly over here in the UK he was seen as a great champion until then and he wasn't forgiven for those remarks until Tyson knocked him out. Bizarre but that's how I remember it. Holmes always was one for putting his foot in his mouth though...
you anti-wlad guys must at least admit that wlad has a chance to win. if snipes decked holmes and nearly had him out then it is only fair to say wlad could do the same. if berbick doesn't get ko'd and has a close fight with larry then why can't wlad? you nostalgic guys always act like you break a boxing commandment if you chose a new guy over an old guy. most of us 'revisionists' don't even say wlad would certainly win, we say he definitely has a chance, not he would ko holmes in three. you on the other hand ridicule us for not having 'boxing knowledge' and say that ... (new fighter) doesn't even belong in the same ring with ... (old fighter).
Shavers had him on ***** street, and lets not forget, shavers chin is worse then Wlads, and Holmes could barely tko him
