Thats good news at least both men want to unify, Sultan fought a tactical fight vs Holyfield and was stunned with a few right hands, I think Vlad will eventually get to Sultan with the right behind the jab but it will be interesting to see how Sultan adjusts to Vlads style, he may have to brawl a bit, he has a southpaw style and has fast hands and I think his best chance is to be aggressive and go to the body if he can, Vlad will more than likely use the jab until he finds a home for the right hand but his left hook could be a big factor in this fight, Southpaws are usually open for the right but the hook can be a good weapon over the right jab.....Wlad has been fighting the best out there, Peter,Austin,Byrd,McCline,Brewster,Brock, so if he wins this one he will be the Champion and Ruslin will have to step up
I agree with you and Heavyrighthand, but Im telling you this isnt the fight that the average fan will pay attention to. How the hell can HBO even market this fight, Wlad has been blowing everybody away while Iggy has been having nothing but boring matches with has beens, you see my point. Could you imagine the great marketing they could do with Wlad/Valuev, I could see it now "2 Giants square off who will be the last one standing, nearly 14 feet between them who will fall". That is PPV match I would pay for, I also think the average fan will as well.
I don't think he'll get credit for beating Sultan Ibragimov. What he'll get credit for is reducing four belts, down to three. :good No matter WHO he beats to do it, he's starting to clean up the mess and put things in a more defined and interesting format.. He's already fought and beat Peter. I agree , Wlad and Chag would be the fight to make, but I think Wlad fighting Chagaev is probalby not doable as long as chagaev's promoter is promoting him (Kohl had a big fallout with both K bros ) But I hope they can still overlook their squabbles and let Chag and the Wlad Ibrag fight unify even further............(assuming Wlad and Ibrag fight first, which is not a given thing, by any means) And Wlad has already said that beating Valuev is not really a feat, anymore, now that he has nothing to take away from him. Chagaev already took it, so why fight Valuev, now, when there is another title out there to be taken? Maybe after the dust settles from these unification fights (If they ever happen), then Valuev would be a good challenger. But I see him as not high on the priority list of improtance. Any unification fight should take precedence over any other fight, in my opinion.
I know most people want unification, but the problem is there not marketing the fights right. Sultan is not marketable, his last 2 fights were ****. Valuev is very marketable and so is a rematch with Peter, especially if he KO's Maskaev. If Wlad cant get Iggy, since Sergei doesnt want a piece of Valuev why not Wlad? Im telling you if this marketed right it will sell, half the people hate Wlad and want to see him knocked out again and the other half want to see if someone could knockout the Giant. If Wlad cant get Iggy, who do you think he should fight?
If I were the WBO, WBA, WBC I would grant my champion the right to face Wlad. The revenue itself would be worth it.
If he can't get Sultan to fight he should fight Chagaev, if no Ruslan then maybe Maskaev. Peter? Wait until Peter has a REAL belt, one that he actually WON IN THE RING.
I agree, but if Wlad cant get Iggy or Maskaev what do you think about Valuev? It could do extremely well if marketed right, 2 giants of the sport fighting each other.
:thumbsup thanks mate i noticed this with juan diaz, kostya and many other champs on the unification trail. it just gets harder and harder for the promoters to avoid the obvious staring them in the face. as for punisher's idea of fighting valuev, that too is a cool matchup. but let's be fair, whether it seems marketable or not, we all know wladimir is huge in germany. it will definately garner european interest, and even some american fans and so on. but after that fight he'll have to wait 1 year at least before trying for another belt. he has to fight the winner of the tourney, and also the wbo mandatory in tony thompson i would imagine. so those three fights will tie him down for 2008. BUT! in 2009 who knows? valuev might regain his belt (seems unlikely). sam peter might have the wbc belt (which would be far better time to rematch peter than now). and of course mess the wbc has gotten into will have been cleared up by the end of 2008. wladimir's fans will enjoy 2008 in the sense he'll do unification, then thompson to get that out of the way, then probably povetkin or chambers at end of year. and there'll be many general fans that wont mind. but i will admit, 2009 will be far more exciting with a potential rematch with peter who might be the wbc champ, and possibly chagaev and/or valuev. hell, maybe even sergie lyakhovich etc. but 2008 will still be better than some previous years, that is for sure.
Good fight for Sultan...fight smart early and invest to the body...then take out the Ukranian late. He could do it.
Another good post, you're on a roll. Ever concider writing a front page article on the subject? You couldn't do worse than many there.................
Sultan will with this fight by ko because Vlad can not stop a southpaw with power. This fight will look a lot tlike Vlads fight with Sanders.
:rofl The only thing that Sultan & Corrie have in common is that they are both lefties.....................after that it's not that simple.
