No slave contracts in mandatory defenses. Povetkin was mandatory *TWICE* and he failed to show up, he could have gotten a nice payday without any rematch or slave clauses.

Now he's WBA mandatory and once again he has the opportunity to make his career-high payday without a rematch clause.

I have to agree, as a Heavyweight guy it irks me how the lower weight divisions are getting spoiled with great fight after great fight.

with knowledgeable guys like yous his legacy should be fine.
For anyone going by ring magazine,
this issue - he is currently worse than his brother
last issue - he gets smoked by every important HW except marciano, where he gets dq'd

I am not in america but i get the feeling he will not be widely appreciated for a long time there.

The heavyweight division has sucked more often than it has been good.

Dempsey sitting his white ass on the title, avoiding his two top contenders, sporadically defending against sickies, oafs and no-hoper light heavies. A sham of a title reign guided by a cynical, Mephistophelian group, putting their doltish savant through his paces against second raters while charging the public top price.

The farce known as Primo Carnera, Max Baer and the predecessors to Louis.

Joe Louis' Bum of the Month Club, some of the members of which wouldn't crack today's top 50 or even win a scrap at the local pub.

The pre-Liston era where midgets and geriatrics reigned supreme. How much righteous derision (as opposed to Classicist rosy-hued nostalgic derision) would be focussed on today's heavyweights if a group of late stage chronics and last hope blown up light heavies were commanding the ranks? Seriously, it is one thing to be old and a legit heavy such as Foreman, Holmes or even Vitali at this point. It is another to be an old blown up light heavy on the quick decline and STILL be a major force in the division. And when was the last time a 185 pound midget with the reach of a decent featherweight ruled the roost? Unforgivable. This era should be banished from register.

The late 70's when Coopman, Evangelista, Dunn were receiving title shots, when Norton got robbed and Leon Spinks actually WON a title. Pop culture value takes second place to actual boxing.

Holmes defending against likes Zanon, Jones, LeDoux, Frank, Rodriquez... A nation yawns.
