Yes, I agree Klitschko and Povetkin hugged 90 % of the time, but I noticed once again that certain punch of Wlad which nobody else executes the way he does: his jab which he uses as a short left hook when the opponent tries to come in. Klitschko knocked Povetkin down with it in an early round and he seemed to hurt him the whole fight with it.

The amazing thing about that punch is that Wlad doesn't wind up at all. It looks like the motion only is around 8 inches long, he doesn't lunge out at all. And that short jab looks like it's nothing, but when you see what it does to his opponents, it looks like a bomb. Crazy that such a short punch can generate so much power. The punch is not super fast, but it is very accurate and got Povetkin throughout the whole fight. If a normal person would throw that punch, it would have no power at all, but Klitschko throws that 8 inch punch (or whatever it is) with deadly power. What a great punch that is...

His left hand is absolutely exceptional.

His left clinch, right clinch combo is maybe the most technically brilliant combination in all of heavyweight or anyweight history. It's almost more masterful than Chuck Wepner's left jaw to right glove/rabbit overhand right combo.

Beautiful pulverizing jab. very cool jab/hook. But Jesus christ what an ugly fight.
Wlad looked gassed in round 4 ready to drop from a powershot that never came.
    Best clincher ever? haha

Wlad's jab is a true power punch, and one that can snap the other guys head back. The hook, which Wlad can seemly change his jab into at will can produce a knockdown or knockout all by itself. Its not only fast, but Wlad's strong as heck and gets his massive shoulders into the punch.

Povetkin had not lost a pro or amateur fight in over 10 years, and was never floored in either his pro or amateur career. Wlad had no problem flooring Povetkin.

You could say Wlad's left is the best in the history of the division as he has an all time jab and hook.

Wlad had/has some of the best tools a heavyweight was ever blessed with. Unfortunately, the name of the game is conservatism. You don't keep the title long by taking big chances. He wins, we lose.

I think Wlad stamina wasn't as good as usual.

He looked a bit gaunt. Speculation on my part, he might have been a little dehydrated. Or the pre-fight antics could have made him a little nervous.

Wlad pre Manny Steward was a risk taking offensive machine. But your right. He plays a game of heads I win, tails you lose.

Stay on the outside and you're meat. Rush me you risk running into my right hand. If all else fails, I'll put my 240+ pounds on you and tire out your legs.

I love the way he leans on his opponent, holding him behind the neck and pushing him down with both hands. Horrible fight, horrible referee. The heavyweight division is dead and it's never coming back, it's actually really sad to know that he just won around 17 mil for this fight.

Wlad also did a fine job deflecting punches with his arms and shoulders.

But you're right. He is a master clincher. With his size, weight and strength, the other guy is going to need plenty of stamina in the clinches, otherwise Wlad will press his weight down and wear the other guy out.

The 17 million is from the Russians over bid to get the rights to host and promote the fight. Das Capital!

He has one of the best jabs I have seen, Holmes, Weaver,Truth Williams,Ali come to mind but Vlad has the best I have seen. I would love to see him shuffle after he lands 5 in a row but that's not his style, he never looks to undermine an opponent but he has shown a meaner streak with that sneaky uppercut...the boxing chemistry between he and Sasha made Ugly fighting but you know what they say" win this one and look good next time"

Go watch Ali-Norton III. Ali at 34 and about the same number of fights into his career is using all the same tricks. Heavyweights don't age well when they try to stay at the highest level.

And yes, I would have liked the ref to do more to give us more fluid action. If Waldo had the heart of Povetkin he would dusted Alex in the 2nd or 7th. But again, low risk is the name of the game. Maybe if guys fought more than twice a year, the blemishes on their records would not be damning for their earning power.

well, he won't get away with that tactic again, they will be waiting for it next time but IMO next fight will be Pulev who is deserving or Fury who is not, so I am expecting a tall guy....Pulev has sneaky power although he does not look for the KO, Fury for what he lacks in skill or Vlad type power has a toughness, brashness and confidence but self belief is a booster.

As far as Detontay Wilder and Jennings they still have not fought a top 15-20 contender so it looks far off for them unless they pick it up soon or get favor for being American because they dont deserve a shot.

Areola-Bertine should rematch for consideration because I dont think Vitali is coming back and as far as Vlad I think 2 fights next year and if he gets past that 1 or 2 more before he quits, he is 37 years old and the clock is ticking
