Now I'm convinced of your inability to read, I specifically said that 5pm on a saturday had nothing to do with it and the "1 Million average views" that time slot usually gets are from bigger sports with bigger fan bases

if you only understand DVR, then for more popular sports more people will set their DVR and for Less popular sports Less people will set their DVR.

let me use an example. the Superbowl got 111 million viewers on a sunday at 6:30 the next week the same time slot got much much less.... it has to do with the popularity of the sport in the country.

So if the Wlad fight was on CBS sunday at 6:30 in the US then with nothing but the Superbowl they could claim that it averages over 2 million fans during that time slot but that's entirely misleading.

ESPN should have advertized more. The fight got 9 million viewers in Germany. Probably did that many in Ukraine and Russia too. I don't think anybody in the states knew this fight was even happening. It wasn't a good fight, but it was free and had the world heavyweight champ. It should have done better ratings than their usual Friday Night Fights showcasing journeymen which averages the same number of viewers as this fight did.

With a little advertizing and on a major network Adamek vs Cunningham did 4 million viewers on NBC a year and a half ago. I'm guessing that the problem was more on ESPN's side than on the American public or Wladimir Klitschko. Checking ESPN's track record they average about 400k viewers rarely going over the 500k mark with the highest ratings I can see coming from 1/14/11 Peter Manfredo Jr vs Daniel Edouard 788,000 and not even cracking 800k. Back in 2009 they aired the Klitschko vs Chagaev match and only got 151k. Compare this to NBC which aired Sergio Mora vs Peter Manfredo in 2005 to 14,000,000 viewers.

ESPN is a good place to launch the careers of up and comers and promote journeymen fighters, but I don't think they have the money or the know how to promote major stars like Klitschko. For that you need HBO, Showtime, or one of the major cable networks like FOX, NBC, ABC, or CBS.

Correct. It's all about the popularity of the boxer.
No one wanted to take time to watch live or set their DVRs to watch a free Vlad fight.
ESPN is basic cable so more subscribers have basic than the higher priced packages.
Vlad's number did even worst than Bernard Hopkins on Showtime where Hopkins received twice the number of views as Vlad.

More people have ESPN than HBO, but not as many people who have it watch it. ESPN is bundled with sixty or seventy other cable channels which means you may have ESPN and not even watch it, but the people who purchase HBO or Showtime definitely watch those channels. Also, HBO and Showtime are boxing channels with a large audience of boxing fans. ESPN is more a baseball, basketball, football channel. A small minority of their audience are boxing fans. So you can put a boxing show on HBO and more people will watch, even though they have fewer subscribers.

Also, does ESPN actually have more viewers than HBO? According to Variety.com ESPN averaged 932,000 viewers in 2013. I can't find the viewership data for HBO, but the boxing they air tends to do 1-2 million viewers. And hit shows like Game of Thrones are doing in excess of 6 million viewers. What kind of numbers do hit shows on ESPN do?

That doesn't tell the whole story though since some games ESPN airs can grab 10 million viewers.

I refuse to debate this any further since you're too dumb to comprehend my argument, it's a comparison of boxings half a million views to to College Football's 1 Million views nothing to do with a Showtime regularly scheduled and promoted boxing match.

see ya pal good luck with your GED

    :lol::lol:

Don't be mad because I'm not interested in unfounded speculations.

Fact is, no more than 450,000 people were interested in watching Vlad fight even for free.

See. facts of the reality versus speculation based excuses of why not. :yep

It is sad how low Wlad has took Heavyweight boxing. Showing Wlad fights is cause these networks to lose money. It is sad the Heavyweight champion of the world fights on damn ESPN at 5pm. You nuthuggers can spin it all you want the numbers don't lie. Even Epix dropped Wlad. HBO gave Wlad another chance and he fought like a scared coward against Povetkin. The way he cheated against Povetkin was the last straw. WLad is pathetic. Trust me he will grab and hold Pulev the same way. I would not be shocked if no one here shows his fight will Pulev. HBO damn sure is not.
