It has been many years since a heavyweight was on this list. I believe Lewis was on the list in the 1990's. Can anyone confirm Lewis last time on the list, and his weight at that period of time?
Well, it's not like Lewis was under two hundred or anything. This doesn't have week to week I don't think but it does show Lewis for two different years. http://www.theboxinghistorian.com/awards/p4p-history.html
I was going to point that out, but figured Mendoza knows but is thinking more career heavies? I don't even think Roy weighed in as a heavy ever.
In before Mendoza uses this to prop up an ATG claim for Waldo. Having a man of that size on a P4P list is nuts considering his limited skillset and glaring vulnerabilities.
I've grown to accept Wlad as an ATG HW and wasnt keen on him at first. I personally rate him above others with weaker resumes like Dempsey/Wills. His dominance and longevity can not be ignored
Here are the list of Ring Magazine HWs that were on Ring Magazine's top ten P4P (since they began their lists in 1980) Larry Holmes Michael Spinks Mike Tyson Evander Holyfield Riddick Bowe Lennox Lewis and now... Wladimir Klitschko Vitali Klitschko is the only Ring Magazine HW champion who haven't been on the P4P list. No matter how you feel about it, Wlad has reached an important milestone.
To make the pound for pound list at heavyweight is extremely difficult for two reasons. 1 ) Most natural heavies can only compete in one weight class. Pound for pound lists, whether its fair or not often include fighters moving up into different weight classes to meet each other. 2 ) Your competition has to be willing to meet you in the ring. Haye, Valuev, Povetkin et all seem rather apprehensive about meeting the Klitschkos, even though they offer the best pay days, and status upside. Does anyone know Lewis weight when he made the list? 235-240? Vitali has not made the list at Ring Magaizne's, though some computerized rankings recognize him as a pound for pound boxer. You will not find a boxer who has a better rounds won to rounds lost ratio in the history of the ring. Vitali did win come back fighter of the year, and Ring Magazine Champion.
