Jennings was there protecting his head but his body was wide open. Kill the body and the head will follow. The KO could have come easily but Wlad just wouldn't commit to it. Maybe he should hire Mike Mc Callum ?
biggest limitation in wlads game. no bodywork, no uppercuts. how the hell can you not go to the body against an ear muffed fighter.
why expend the energy on an uppercut when you can just grab the guy and reset behind your jab? i'm not sure Wladimir knows he's allowed to punch the body.
Tyson often stated his right to the body was his money punch; once he landed it, he knew the fight would soon end.
Going to the body might have been physically difficult for him since hes so tall and Jennings was shorter (jabbing the body that is)
Wlad would go to the body with his jab often earlier in his carrier. Despite common belief that Wlad became a better boxer now, I think he was at his prime back when he returned from his losses. Back then he established lead foot dominance, used jab to the body and escaped easily. Now, with Jennings being in constant lateral movement, he was just afraid to be countered. Klitschko would have to lean and leave himself wide open.
The reason wlad doesn't hit his shots to the body cause he's scared and why he's scared to try it? Because it will likely be open to counter by landing a clean shot from an opponent that could tko or ko wlad. Wlad with his height would be a risk.
Everybody he faces ends up so low down when in range. Vlads rights always seem to have to chop down, even against ppl around his own height. And once the fighters get close he just ties up and holds with both arms anyway.
And how being scared constitutes a valid argument ? You either are the HW champion of the world or you aren't. You take what your opponent gives you, and if he protects his chin then you target the body and take risks doing so because that's your job.
Gaping hole in Wlad's game. He could have pulverized Jennings with body punches, and if that didn't stop him it would at least make the head shots less predictable. I mean seriously...there's no excuse for not using body shots, but especially when you have an opponent with an earmuff defense (a bad one, too).
If Wlad start jabbing lower, he'd have more success. He overshoots his jab a lot and it often results in getting countered on the inside. If he target his jab lower, he'd hit his more often. If he jabs to the chest of his opponents, he'd keep them off easier instead of grabbing and clinching. Look at how Kovalev control his opponents with the jab to the body. Despite being the taller guy sometimes, he jabs to the body of his opponents and keeps them in his range. Hopkins couldn't get close because of it. Wlad had a lot of openings to the body, but he's just too afraid to take it.
Not really a trait of any HW boxer in all honesty Why go to the body when uve ko power to the head in both hands?
A small remark: he keeps winning without body punches. Only a fool would choose to change the established successful procedure.
