the Wlad/Peter fight was an IBF/WBO eliminator. Why on earth would Wlad give a rematch to Peter instead of fighting for a belt? Do you seriously think had Peter won they would have rematched Wlad instead of fighting for either the WBO or IBF title in the next fight? :rofl:patsch

Peter could not even win one second of one round against a guy that had been retired for 4 years and had MULTIPLE injuries. Peter's career is over. He is finished.

Wrong. His best performance was the James Toney rematch. This is when people began to say that Peter has learned how to box. That was the first time Peter was accused of being able to box.

Like I said... obviously those people never watched Peter before his fight against Wlad. Peter has always been able to box, and he actually used to have much better movement, legs, upperbody movement, and speed. His fight against Toney in the rematch showed that he was able to follow a simple gameplan in order to easily beat Toney, who was outmatched in the first place. It was clear to anyone with a brain that all Peter had to do was stand outside and box Toney to beat him. Let's be honest, Toney has never been great at fighting guys who use distance and box. Toney thrives against fighters who drape themselves on top of him, as he rolls and counters. This has been the pattern throughout his entire career.

I won't argue with that observation...but I wouldn't make the mistake of saying that's Toney in a nutshell.

Why can't you post like this more often FFS...???

IF it really goes through, props to Wlad, for going after one of the best challenges around, but I think this is a very safe fight for him.

Wlad should go after Valuev right now, offer him 60%-65% of the purse and get that WBA belt, it's the best option out there. It would also set him up against Chagaev for the summer and he can deal with Povetkin on the second semester, leaving Arreola for 2010 when he will be more experienced and better.

I don't think it has anything to do with Peter being ruined. It's just when he fought Wlad, it was the first time he stepped up in class and fought someone above bum level and he took on the best guy in the division, that's quite a drastic change compared to his former opposition. Ever since then he has mostly has faced contenders and since he can't box for ****, he obviously didn't look as good as he was when beating up bums.

Most of you guys are acting as if Arreola is going in there with no arms! He will be in his home turff, and he is alot more active in the ring than any of Wlads recent victims. Arreloa' chin is good as a matter of fact it is better than most give him credit for. I wont pick a winner until i see how much Arreola comes in at. if he is over 240 than im going with Wlad, but if not Arreolas going to KTFO Clinchko.

he learned to box cause he had a short, stationary target who couldn't hurt him as opposed to a mobile, 6'6''puncher with a ramrod jab and huge power in both fists. It's easier to look better when u face lesser competition.

When Peter stepped down in competition to toney and maskaev, he looked better. once he stepped up to vitali, u saw what happened.

You are helping illustrate my point, and are giving supporting reasons why it was his best performance.

He was not ruined after WLAD....

actually u are mistaken. tonny thomspon is a very acitve hw who likes to pressure. what many fail to understand is wlad's size, jab, movement and control of distance severely limit his opponents' workrate and effectiveness. This was not the case before 2005. He is a different fighter now.

he has learned to use his massive body to wear down opponents too in the clinch like lennox used to do very well.

Arreola is too slow in hand and foot to close the distance. wlad will control the distance and stop him inside the distance at any point. Wlad beat the breaks off arreola in sparring too.

I don't think that Wlad ruined him either. However, I think that it was much harder to break Peter's spirits when he was undefeated... and once a fighter gets that first loss... it is always easier for them to give into another loss. Also, he just doesn't look like he has the same confidence in himself. Sam Peter trying to become a more technical boxer does NOT help his career. His best attributes were that he was unpredictable, durable, powerful, and wild. Now... that isn't going to be his best avenue of victory against guys like James Toney who depends on fighters winging shots on him, and staying on top of him as they wear themselves out, smothering their shots and not being able to deal with his shoulder roll and he picks them off with rolling counter rights, and left hooks. However, against either Klitschko, it is clearly a better path for Peter to flat out fight them, and try to disrupt their outside rhythm. Peter's best hope, although slim... was to do what he did against Wlad and basically just brawl with him, and hope that he unravels. He is never going to win a tactical boxing match against either Klitschko.

Yes, I think Valuev's people knows that with Chagaev looming, Valuev is somewhat likely to lose his title in that rematch.

And if Valuev were to fight Wlad, instead, before he loses his title, he'd obviously make alot more money losing to Wlad, than he would losing to Chagaev.

Let's just hope King and the rest of Valuev's crew see this, and the Wlad Valuev fight can be agreed upon, cause Arreola would be a waste of time. That guy would not last long enough to see round four, maybe not even round three.

Bring on Valuev / Wlad, if at ALL possible. :good
