Hard to say anyone would have beaten the Wlad we saw last night but, Ray Mercer is the prototype anti-Wlad....You couldn't hurt him and he threw hard shots back...And he was a good enough boxer to repeatedly get to a prime Lennox (I thought Mercer won that fight)...I think the fight would look very similar to Mercer v Lewis but, I can't imagine Wlad showing as much heart as those two did...I just don't see him winning a 'war', and every Mercer fight became one...Mercer KO6....

Mercer who Ko'd Morrison would be a very scary fight for Wlad.

All this talk about Wlad lacking heart is just bull****. A person does not become a world champion after 2 devastating losses with out a heart. I think in Sanders fight he showed a big heart: he was knocked down badly, kept getting up and kept fighting, getting tagged, knocked down and yet again he kept getting up. A boxer without a heart would just give up, lay until the 10th count and thats it. He got up and continued fighting 4 times. In Peter fight, knocked down 3 times but got up and kept fighting and ended up winning a fight. Even in TOS fight, right after the knock down, he got up and immediately punished TOS in the same round.
What shows a lack of heart in the guy? I just dont get it.
Also you say he wont be able to hurt Mercer, I thought he did just that in their fight, being the first man to knock him down, and stopping him.

i agree with this though. Lewis would have done the same to Peter as Wlad did except a little earlier because Wlad does tend to make fights a bit longer.

Wlad could of had him out of there from the forth rounf onwards, but hey wlad knows his limitations in the chin department. Thats why he has to have his. Opponent tottaly beaty down and defenceless before he goes in for the finish, can't argue as it works for him.

Vlad has never been knocked out, Lewis has.

Vlad beat Mercer, stopped him. Watch the fight, it's on tape. Mercer gave Lewis pure Hell!

Um, yeah. Says it all, pretty much.

Wlad fought Ray 6 years after Lewis did, and whipped his ass worse than any man ever did. Rewind the clock for Mercer, and put Wlad into his prime with the brilliant Steward in his trainer, and Klitschko beats the good not great Mercer.

Wlad Klitschko is a great heavyweight. He's not losing to anybody but another great fighter if he can keep this caliber of fighting up.

Wlad can win this fight. Of cource, Mercer is strong and dangerous. But he is beatable.

And dont forget that 1996 version of Mercer was fat (238 lbs) and already past prime Mercer. In fact, he was 14 lbs heavier than his previous fight against Holyfield and hadn't fought in a year.

The fact that Lewis barely won (though Lennox did look very good in that fight) doesn't mean that Ray Mercer would have beaten anyone that night. He would have definitely lost to 1996 Tyson, Holy and some other fighters. I'm sure that fight was so hard for Lennox because of Mercer's style and his exellent jab. And, of course, his granite chin - Lewis landed big punches all night, but was not even close to hurt Mercer.

But overall, mid 90-s Mercer was not easy to beat. He lost to Holy (I had it 3-7, and Ray was knocked down late), lost to Lennox in a close fight (1-2 pts), and won close fight vs Tim Witherspoon (I had it 5-5, maybe 6-4 Mercer). Though slow a bit, he was iron-chinned, good puncher, and had one of the best jabs in the 90-s HW division.

Wlad has been dominated and then embarrassingly TKO'd 3 times by nothing guys. 2 of which he never avenged. Lennox was hit by 2 big shots that put him down and was counted out once. Lennox then rematched and beat both. Trying to use that in Wlad's favor is hillarious.

The Mercer Wlad beat is nothing like the Mercer that fought Lennox. That is the point of the question. I say Mercer wins by KO.
