Wlad of last nite vs ray mercer(who fought lennox)...who wins???

Mercer was not near prime when he fought Wladimir, but also Wladimir was not anywhere near the best, ie the current

Wladimir TKO

 

Mercer was a tough guy and I could see him getting to and stopping Wlad after absorbing some major punishment himself. But, I think the most likely scenario is Wlad wins by decision. Wlad has become very good at using his jab and size to control fights. Mercer has the chin and jab to really trouble Wlad but is too stationary to beat him. Both guys have their moments and both guys probably get hurt during the fight but Wlad wins. He may be boring but he has gotten very good at doing what he does.

Wladimir has never been KO'd, only TKO'd. The very best version of Ray ain't good enough to do it either. Mercer might survive the distance but I'm sure it wouldn't be close on the cards at the end either. Mercer had good power, Wlad has great power. Mercer had a good jab, Wlad has a great jab. Etc., etc.

 

Lennox Lewis had a great jab too but Wlad's is faster & more powerful. Wlad also hooks better off the jab than Lewis did.

 

That really is lovely.

Wlad never faced a guy as good as that Mercer. He'd get stopped, let's agree on that.

 

I agree with the hook of the jab thing, but IMO, Lewis' jab was heavier than Wlads. But one thing Lewis' jab definitely had over Wlad was Lewis was way more accurate. Wlad actually misses frequently. When Lewis threw a punch, he usually got it in there really well. Lewis was also able to throw the jab from varying angles, and he was effectively able to move while jabbing. All things Wlad does not do well.

 

Wlad has a ton of heart, just not not as much and/or not the same warrior mentality as Mercer and Lewis...You can see it in his losses...He has a great chin, despite the prevailing views, but he panics when he gets hit too much...Lewis and Mercer both swung for the fences when they were hurt, whereas Wlad freezes, runs, or goes down (at least he used to)...

As far as knocking Mercer down goes, Holyfield put him down hard with a counter left hook a few years after Lewis...That was the most hurt I have ever seen him but, he was in his 40's and had been in many wars...His chin wasn't the same after that...Wlad may have hurt Mercer but, he pounded on him and Mercer still wanted to fight when it was stopped...and that was an old, old, old Mercer...

Wlad is way better than people give him credit but, Mercer was just the perfect style to defeat him...

 

There are a lot of people on both sides of the fence being completely moronic.

 

Wladimir fights a disciplined fight where Lennox accepted the dog fight, and wins by TKO.

Had Lennox fought disciplined its likely he'd have stopped Ray Mercer.

Lennox staggers Peter early and bombs him out, in three or four rounds.

The Mercer from the Lewis fight? He gets knocked out. Lewis foolishly allowed himself to be dragged into a dogfight with a guy he could have defeated soundly by taking advantage of his superior skills.
Wlad wouldn't allow that to happen, he would pick Mercer apart, similar to what he did against Ray Mercer.

Its about time people demystify Ray Mercer, his boxing skills simply does not match those of Wladimirs. Ol' Holmes schooled him, he embarrassed himself in getting outboxed by Jesse Ferguson, where he repeatedly offered Ferguson to take a dive. Fransesco Damiani put on a clinic on Ray till he caught him with a hail mary.

Ray has decent power, but a disciplined boxer- puncher like Wladimir keeps him at bay all night. Depending on where the fight takes place, Wladimir either gets a TKO or an ugly decision.
