Wlad by KO. The 90's heavyweights are overrated as ****.

Wald would never win by KO, never, ever, ever. Mercer had an excellent chin. The best Wlad could hope for is Mercer's corner pulling him out or the ref stopping the fight due to too much punishment or injuries etc. I can see Wlad getting the decision if he's disciplined and sticks behind the jab. If Mercer catches him though it would get very interesting. Wlad would have to be focused for every second of the fight.

Despite his age, the Mercer that faced Wlad was close to his best prime weight at 228 and at the very least had been active against fringe competition.

The Mercer that faced Lewis was overweight and coming off a year of inactivity. Ferguson also outpointed a 235+ lb Mercer if that means anything.

Neither win is particularlly meaningful. A jittery Lewis used Mercer as a trial horse for his comeback and it proved to be a miscaculation as he nearly lost a decision. It could have been a stylistic problem or Lewis simply wasn't buzzing with confidence as this was his first real test after the McCall upset; as he allowed Mercer to impose his fight on him.

The rising Wlad used old Mercer as a busy fight as he waited for a title shot that didn't come. The difference is Wlad hits harder than Lewis as Steward himself admits and he wasn't shy about loading up than. The current version of Wlad would probably coast to a decision. The polished Lewis of 99 might very well have had an easier time with Mercer as well.
