I don't think the heavyweight divison is depleted. In fact Wlad, Iggy, Povetkin, Chagaev, and Peter on average are under 30 years of age. What we need to see is them fight each other. Hopkins is past his best. Clazahge is going to do number on Hopkins.
Do you realize the constraints on BH deffensive capabilities (speed, agility, balance) such hight would present? Moreover, the strength and power diffrence is so great that I don't even see Klitschko with his weak chin being bothered by BH's best punches.
Maybe it would be fairer to make them both 6'2 then. Wlad relies on clinching too much and I think that plays into Hopkins's hands. Anyway, clearly P4P Hopkins is better.
While I agree with you about the P4P rankings, we need to realize that Klitschko would be much faster on his feet at 6'2 and his output would be absolutely rediculous. Again, unless you take WK power away, I personaly don't see BH beating him in HW regardless of their respective hights.
Fair enough I suppose. I think Klitschko would struggled with a skilled boxer who was the same size as him. He relied on jabbing and then grabbing and agaiknst Hopkikns I don't think that would work.
Not even ****ing close. PopShotkins is a shell of his former self when he fought Trinidad. It's over. A cheap wrestling win over Winky Wright doesn't mean **** nowadays. Wlad is miles above Hopkins in everyway except cheating, wrestling, and throwing 5 punches per round.
From what I have observed, Klitshko only tends to clinch against powerfull punchers (Peter, Brewster 1st fight), against lighter punchers (Byrd, Brock, Austin) he almost did not even clinch. And honestly at HW I don't even think BH would punch as hard as Byrd. On the other note, BH loves to clinch even more so than Klitschko, and Klitscho with his larger frame even at (hypothetical 6'2 hight) would completely wear BH down. The point is that there ase so many uknown variables even considering same hight that is quite pointless to discuss.
Close comparison, I think I will know better after each man has fought again, but if Hopkins beats Calzaghe he certainly get my nod.
the whole point of p4p is to establish who is better regardless of weightclass. in this thead its obvious that a large majority of people think Wlad is better than Hopkins, regardless of weightclass. unless i misunderstood the whole concept of pound for pound.
what? What's your criteria for "elite fighter"? Recent level of competition? Wlad has fought Austin, Brewster, and now Ibragimov... Bernard has fought Tarver, Wright and now Calzaghe... Bernard IS the definition of an elite fighter, and even at 43.
Skill wise, Wlad can be in the top 10 p4p. Who has a better jab, hook, or cross? Not too many fighters. But Wlad is 245 pounds, which is double the weight of a skilled feather weight, so he has to be twice as good.....pound for pound to rate. I'd just assume leaving heavies off the pound for pound list, and call them the kings of the ring in the unlimited or below weight classes. One of the best pound for pound fighter is Paqucio. He'd last less than two rounds vs Wlad. It would be a dangerous mismatch. Speaking of Hopkins, he has some p4p goodwill left in him. Once Calzaghe pastes him, I think he's the #1 p4p fighter in boxing. Mayweather needs to fight a highly ranked young natural welter or jr middle.
