I had said to flea man in the past maybe on here or possibly another forum a while back that I was not sold on pulev and I was right . Pulev considering he was a international amateur didn't really have a defence no upper body movement and very minimal head movement he was very disappointing . Wlad may of slipped a little but that's a maybe and as posted earlier it may be down to american tv either way we could be in for some exciting fights involving wlad . Personally I would prefer chisora to beat fury but wlad vs fury could be fun while it lasts . Chisora vs wlad could also be good but short if wlad continues to entertain. Wlad vs wilder would be funny ,very short probably a messy fight but a real laugh . I haven't been on-line that much and when I am I have mostly just been reading in the classic . I still miss the days of maps and graphs in the lounge . I hope things are going well for you I thought you might be a mod by now if I'm being honest . It's always a pleasure flurry :good
I find it funny how before the fight people were like "Pulev is going to outjab Wlad, Pulev is such a good boxer, Wlad can't handle him". And now these same people are like "Did you see how Pulev hit Wlad in the 1st and 5th round, clearly Wlad is past it". Fact #1: Pulev IS a very good boxer. Fact #2: Pulev DID hit Wlad with some good shots (which would be expected due to fact #1) Fact #3: Wlad did not appear hurt in any significant way, and delivered the final KO blow to Pulev right after Pulev hit him in the 5th. I still think Pulev is Top 3. Just because he was beaten by Wladimir doesn't mean he necessarily drops in the rankings. I have to look at him head to head against other fighters in the Top 10...and assuming he didn't take too much damage Saturday night, I'd still give him a Top 3 ranking.
Peaked 2010-2011. Nobody peaks at 38 unless your name is Bernard Hopkins. Wlad vs Chambers and vs Haye looked untouchable though. Against nowadays' opposition anyways.
I suppose if you rated pulev that highly which not everybody did :bart , surely though it shows just how weak the heavyweight division still is
Maybe mentally, nobody can be at his physical prime at 38yo but even past prime Wlad is levels above everyone else
Wlad is past his prime. His fluidity is diminished but his confidence is better than ever and that is of vast importance.
IMO he looked his best against Chagaev. Also he looked untouchable against Chambers and Haye. His peak should be 2008-2011. He was polishing that style between 2004-2007. Before that (2000-2003), he was a hungry fighter with many mistakes Before that (1997-1999), he was just green.
no ones peaking at 38, not on this planet. even Hopkins, the absolute freak of non-ageing, was well into post prime at 38.
I know wlad totaly demolited pulev but i believe that he made wlad fight better and turn it to another level in first round i really thought pulev could beat wlad and then boom left hook! Wlad found out opening and then set up traps most likely they had studied pulev closely. Unlike Haye or Ibragimov Pulev never stoped trying and got KTFO and even after fight he still had winners mentality. I start to think that wlad is bit like tyson if fighters wants to fight with him he will ko them if they want to survive it goes to points sometimes late stoppage (wlad)
you dont peak at 38 he is just much better than everyone else, and works harder than anyone else. he also has more expierence than everyone else
What about JMM? He knocked out Pacq at nearly 39, and looked incredible. The thing about guys like this is they never get out of shape. Chef will tell you, or Banks.
youre right about them always being in shape, that accounts for a lot. but it has nothing to do with peaking at 38. its more of just being smarter than they were. IE learning from past mistakes. Guys like JMM, Hopkins, they just adapted to what would work...Hopkins used to be a KO guy..."the executioner" then he realized fighting like that mentality would be a much shorter career.
