Every time there is a Povetkin thread, the same false narrative is posted:

Povetkin has not faced a big puncher, and so he is not going to be prepared to handle Wladdy's power. Povetkin is too small to get inside Wladdy's jab. Povetkin is not a big one-punch KO guy, and power is the only thing that stops Wladdy. Sascha looked terrible against smallish Cahmbers. Wladdy by brutal KO.

    Well, no on several accounts.

    1. POWER IS THE ONLY THING THAT STOPS WLADDY is ridiculous. Two of his three losses come from running out of gas. Povetkin throws 70 punches a round at least through ten, a lot like Frazier, Holyfiled or Marciano before him. Povetkin is not feather fisted, and those punches are going to do a lot more damage is Wladdy is sucking wind, especially considering that some of Povetkin's good work is to the body.

    2. POVETKIN IS TOO SMALL TO GET INSIDE WLADDY'S JAB. Again, as long as Wladdy is able to throw it frequenly and with authority. Sascha is going to wear him down. Povetkin is almost 6'3" anyhow- not as small as a lot of people seem to think.

    3. POVETKIN HAS NOT BEEN TESTED BY A GOOD PUNCHER AND HIS CHIN IS GOING TO FAIL. Maybe. Maybe not. A chin is the most difficult thing in the sport to train anyway, conventional wisdom is that you either got it or you don't. Povetkin has had it somewhat tested in a wealth of amatuer fights, and also Friday Ahunuya is a decent puncher. One way or the other, he is going to get hit by a right hand, and he will either crumble or stand up to it. I would have liked to have seen him stand up to someone who can bang a little, but it has no relevance what-so-ever to how he takes it when he gets hit. One thing we know about Alex- he has heart. So if he is physically capable of taking the punch, he will.

    4. POVETKIN LOOKED TERRIBLE AGAINST CHAMBERS. An Wladdy looked pretty awful against Ross Purrity, Corrie Sanders, and Lamon Brewster. Povetkin claims he had a bad flu for the fight- I take it at face value. Regardless, he hanged in there and won against a fine young proven and legitimate contender. Povetkin is a winner.

So yeah, its possible that Wladdy whacks him out of there. But I can easily see Alex throwing more punches and decisioning him ala Calzaghe over Hopkins.

Wlads stamina has improved, I doubt he'll gas out, and if he does I don't think Povetkin will be able to capitalize. Povetkin was eating right hands from Chambers before Chambers inexplicably stopped punching all together, Wlad has a much better, more powerful right hand. Povetkin is in for some punishment.

One thing I agree with you on is that Povetkin is a winner, he has that mentality. He should not be counted out all together, a lot depends upon how good his chin is, all indicators are that it is very good indeed, but Wlad will test it like no body else.

This is true, but has anyone tested him int his departement since his losses? Peter is powerful but plodding. Byrd is defensive. Brock and Austin are underqualified in every way. Sultan was cautious. Wlad has not faced and opponent who throws seventy punches a round like Sacha. He has not faced someone who is going to take his wind away with effective body punching like Sacha.

Wladdy's stamina will come into play into his fight.

    This is point #3.

His amatuer record is 125-7. He also had a hugely succesful kick boxing carreer, and has now won, what, 16 fights as a pro? He has not faced many good punchers, but Friday can bang.

In all of these fights, there has been not one indication that he has anything less than a terrific chin.

A chin is what it is, to some extent, you either got it or you don't. It looks like Povetkin has it.

Wlad can punch, no doubt. But if Peter and Sultan are standing at the end of a match, I don't see that Alex wouldn't be.

I think David Haye poses a bigger danger to Wlad than does Povetkin. A fight between Haye and Wlad will be real dangerous in the early goings. Haye will most likely attempt to time Wlads jab and land one of his overhand rights which could easily put Wlad away, but if he fails and Wlad finds his range, it will be over quick. Povetkin will last a bit longer against Wlad, but he lacks that explosive movement/power to really pose any danger, his defence is not that good either, Chambers was landing some vicious straights before he gassed, Wlad should be able to finish Povetkin via 7-8th round TKO.

Good post, cachibatches! Well done and well spoken!

Povetkin had faced and beaten the who is who of the best heavies on earth at the amateurs. He had faced extremely dangerous bangers as well as slick movers as well as huge fellows who could bang as well as box(Islam Timurziev who will probably win gold at the upcomming olympic heavy weight tournament in China).
Wlad had better keep his nose to the grindstone and dont underestimate his foe or he will be in for a big surprise.Povetkin doesnt play in Thompson's,Austin's,or Brook's league. He wont be a walk in the park for the present undisputed nr.1 at the big boys' league.
:DNevertheless,I will probably bet my money on Wlad.

Wlad should destroy this guy... period.

If he fights timidly like he did the last time out, Povetkin has a chance. If Wlad is more aggressive, this one's over by the 7th.

At least then we are closer to the REAL fight everyone wants...

    Wlad v.s. Peter II

While ams aren't the same as pros I think Povetkin has the right style for the pro ranks.

He comes forward and makes the fight, doesn't run out of energy and keeps his game on the inside. This is a perfect style against Waldo.

The one thing that needs to be monitored here is that gay ****ing holding. If Waldo is allowed to jab and grab like he did against Sam Peter, Povetkin has got very little chance of winning.

Povetkin is just the better boxer and a more likeable style as champion. I hope he wins it. Ibragimov really screwed the pooch by not attacking Waldo who is known for having issues with stamina. A guy as small and as fast as him could have easily used speed to get off first and get out or get too close to be damaged. He could have worked on that paranoia to get the big man exhausted but instead he ran all night trying to lay a trap. Dumb dumb dumb. He gave that fight to Waldo on a silver platter.

Povetkin will not do the same.
