Definitely Vitali. He's not as fast, athletic, or powerful as Wlad, yet with less he does more. He arm punches alot to score or set traps, he is more versatile and conserves his energy more.
Im not sure they have different yet effective styles, pile on points, get hit very little, and usually get the stoppage its tough to say I think other than the Haye fight 3 of Wlads last 4 have been perfect performances all you could ask for Vitali was hurt and still managed to find a way to dominate a younger fresher opponent
i dont know about that, while vitali's high punch output and sneaky counters are highly effective i dont think it necessarily equates to ring IQ. wlad's jab in itself can dictate the pace of a match. in terms of footwork wlad greatly outshines vitali, vitali tends to back straight up when on the defensive while wlad utilizes more angles and effective clinching. so i give it to wlad
Sure Wlad's jab may dictate the pace of a match, but it depends with who he's using it against. It didn't work too well against Sanders, an agressive fighter.
true, but you also have to take into consideration that he wasn't exactly the polished boxer he evolved into today. not making excuses but under the tutelage of manny steward he's improved greatly. look at wlads fight with chris byrd, byrd was completely shut down because not only could he close the distance due to wlads punches, but he couldnt keep up with him because of his footwork. vitali beats opponents with a high workrate and maintaining distance. while wlad is selective with his shots and uses every inch of the ring to his advantage.
Vitali don't seem to get the credit he deserves with the Chisora win, which was with the right arm only after the fourth round. And he STILL won 8 out of 12 rounds. Incredible fighter.
plus considering his age too...Vitali is a great and intelligent fighter in there he does so many things right if he had the power he had in 03 he would be the most exciting heavyweight today
Its hard to say Wlad is the more gifted of the two but man Vitali does whatever he wants in the ring with anybody. Its like apples to oranges really hard to pick just one
VK thinks in the ring. He looks for openings and changes up the way he throws his punches or which punches and combos he throws according to what he sees in his opponents. Wlad does the samething all fight every fight. There isn't a doubt about it.
There is no question Wlad is the more gifted fighter and understands the sweet science more than Vitali. I believe Vitali at least at one time, was mentally tougher. Vitali had a grueling fight against Corrie Sanders, but he pressed on for the victory. I don't think Wlad could have done that. Of course, he got Kayo'd by Sanders but at least at one time, I don't see Wlad weathering that kind of a tough fight, at that time, I'm saying. Wlad hung in there in a tough go against Sam Peters so maybe he has grown.
