I think its realistic to see 3 fights a year... between the organisations, the contracts and talks, T.V. Etc,.. I just dont see it happening more then 3 times a year... I know the Haye contracts took much longer then anyone thought. Wlad did want 3 like he usually fights. I think the days of 4-5 fights a year (at that level) are just to hard to put together
3 fights a year would already be an improvement. Wlad only fought twice a year during the last five years.
3 rimes during 2008. Sultan, tompson and Rahman. And i believe he will fight 3 times this year. Haye -on jun povetkin in las days of September(will be a great birthday present for me ) and someone to warm it up in last days of the year.
You are right, Wlad would become more popular if more active. I will never understand why he granted Rahman a title shot after Toney beat the **** out of Rahman in the second fight.
Well Rahamn wasn't supposed to get a shot in the first place, he was only a replacement for Povetkin. But it wasn't a last minute replacement and Toney was available, so I agree, Toney should have got the shot instead of Rahman, especially since Toney looked good and was in somewhat acceptable shape in the Rahman II fight. Then again many voices here would have claimed that Toney didn't deserve a shot at the titles any more than Rahman did. But at any rate Toney would have done better than Rahman.
I have been with Wlad since the Peter fight (just over 3 years)... the Haye fight will be fight #9 in 3 1/2 years... that very close to 3 fights a year average. Wlad fights just as much as most other champions:deal
no, it'll be fight #9 in nearly 4 years. That makes little more than two fights a year. Checked it on boxrec again: 2004: 2 fights (to be fair he suffered a heavy KO loss to Brewster that took some time to digest) 2005: 2 fights 2006: 2 fights 2007: 2 fights 2008: 3 fights (2009: likely only 2 fights again, due to Haye being a drama queen) I followed Wlads career since his win over Axel Schulz, he fought more often back then, and he was way more exciting.
It is a crime fighters don't even lace up 3 times a year any more. It should be a rule you have to fight two or three times per calendar year.
I think Wlad was far more entertaining and faced slightly better opposition before he found out that his chin wasn't good. He did let his hands go, tried to demolish his opponents and didn't fight in a safety-first mode like he does far too often now. He also fought more often. I liked watching his fights back then. But I'm not saying that he necessarily was a better fighter back then - he paid the price against Sanders and Brewster, so it's understandable that he had to change his style. But it's also understandable that his boring safety-first style is not very popular.
