I wouldn't say "sacrilegious" as its only your opinion - whereas in reality Dempsey was VASTLY more than just 'a decent cruiser weight brawler type power" - and if you base the whole power thing on the size thing - hence you think Dempsey couldn't possibly have hit as hard as Sanders or Brewster then you are way off the mark - Former contender Phil Jackson said that light heavy Dennis Andries hit tonnes harder the Lennox Lewis for instance - probably something you wouldn't beleive based on the science etc but true - illustrates how wrong you can be - plus someone who hit like a horse like Firpo (however lacking in technique) is likely to be able to hurt anyone he manages to hit (however much you'd beleive he just wasn't good enough to do it from a technique standpoint) his record and punch made him a threat to anyone he could hit simple as that
I think he does hit just as hard as they do. I just don't think his defensive abilities will stand up to Wlad's attack. If firpo can counter him how can Wlad not do?
Let me translate that... Jackson remembers Andries catching him harder than the three punch combo with which Lewis completely diconnected Jackson's mental faculties. Gibbons stated that Dempsey wasn't near the best puncher he faced. The one time Jack KO'd Miske, and a mortally sick Miske at that, it was a foul blow. I have already thoroughly defused the myth of Demspey's vaunted run to their title as little more than barnstorming and fighting name opponents in the twilight of their abilities. Jack liked to load up on his punches to the great deficit of his defense, something clever matchmaking and house refs help hide. He also had the benefit of standing over fallen foes and unloading when their knees left the canvas. No, I will take Brewster and Sanders as more devastating punchers.
Who did Brewster and Sanders KO apart from a glass chin Wladimir? Old Bert Cooper who was KOd about 10times before that fight or maybe Monaco?
Wlad almost fell over when he missed David Haye. He's clumsy, has a glass chin, questionable stamina, can't set opponents up for the kill, can't fight close..list goes on. Luckily Steward could see his strengths and worked on them.
Willard is a former circus strongman who started boxing when he was 27 years old, who was also on a 4 year layoff. Very comparable to the skills of the super athlete Wlad who nabbed an olympic gold at the age of 20. atsch Just because they are both big and tall doesnt mean they are identical as fighters, FFS, thats the ONLY thing they have in common.
The most recent praise I read was from a sparring partner of his, he sparred with every major hw from bowe to wlad and he said Brewster hit him the hardest. I don't think it was our magna it was someone else, if you search you'll find it. Guy could punch like a mule kick.
