There were better opponents than those two available at the time for Holmes. He was choosing the weaker opponents in the division to pad his record.

holmes did have some title defenses vs guys that prob werent really that great, but when you beat everyon you gotta fight someone, holmes was all about the big fight $$$ so im sure if godzilla was available for good money hed fight him instead

 

The thread starter forgot to put in all the fighters Holmes fought that were undefeated as well, Williams, Cooney, Snipes, off the top of my head were undefeated when he beat them, not to mention a hall of famer in Norton and Ali, and also beat Mercer, Shavers, and Cobb.
