Wlad vs. Larry Holmes

Holmes, jab was a thing of beauty. Didn't TOS, put Wlad on his azz also. Holmes, by TKO 8 rounds, case dismissed!

 

Yes, he has incredible heart.

It was amazing how he went down the second time in the Sanders fight without even getting punched. Just fell to the ground, ass in the air, ready to be taken.

And back in the day, Purity feinted, and Wlad said "**** this ****." And fell on the ground for the KO.

And what about Brewster. As soon as Wlad found out that Brewster could take his punches, he folded like a guy with a pair of two's.

Wlad is a bully. If someone bangs him back, he hits the deck.

 

I think Larry would fight Wlad much like he did Cooney. Holmes gave Cooney A LOT of respect and used movement the Jab and the occasional right hand then when Cooney got tired in the 10th round he started throwing the right hand to stop him.

Wlad doesnt match up against pressure sluggers. Guys like Foreman, tyson, Dempsey, marciano etc. These kinds of guys who pressure and get inside and throw hard punches would more than likely KO wlad IMO.

Now, Holmes is definitely not one of those types of fighters. He works very similarly to wlad, everything off the jab, stay at range. Holmes is a better combination puncher, has faster hands. Wlad has more power, size and at anytime can put someone to sleep and if you have watched the Cooney fight you know that Holmes gave him all kinds of respect.

IMO, this is a fairly close fight. Wlad doesnt lose a lot of rds. He just has the ability to be the ring general On the other hand Holmes is durable, but not invulnerable. If they fought 10x Id wager Wlad wins 4 by decision, 1 by Ko and Holmes wins 1-2 by TKO (cuts) and 2-3 by decision. 50/50

 

Well. some people seem to think that Vlad is it the top tier of all time greats... Not in my opinion. Maybe we should put Brewster in the top tier list as well, ya think ?????

 

Forgot that Brewster was an all time great puncher, !

 

It's why I think his chin is pretty good, never been unconscious but seems to panic when hit flush...

Probably exagerating my point on wlad, but Larry just had a ton and never gave reason to question it...

 

Are we really comparing a fighter who was KO`d three times by VERY mediocre fighters to an all time great ? And I actually feel that Holmes COULD hurt and finish Klit if he got him in trouble. Holmes when he was young, was an agressive boxer-puncher. And unlike Klit, would actually go after his opponent and look to finish him. This guy got STOPPED by Corrie Sanders !!!!! Heart and chin are to very different things.... And while I`m at it, trying to compare Larry`s fighting heart with Vlad ??? Forget it ! Holmes when coming up against adversity, stepped it up and came back with huge heart to win. Vlad ??? When the going gets tough he gets stopped... Please do not bring up the very limited Sam peter...

 

Well said. The fact is that WALDO fans have to bring up the likes of limited Peter and how he out-boxed feather fist Byrd to back up their argument because that's literally all they have.

Holmes was just a way better fighter than WALDO and that's all there is to it. It's no disgrace to WALDO either, Holmes was one of the very best.
