IB Funfact: this will be the 2nd title defense Wladimir has made against someone with the ring name "Fast [first name]".

It will also be the first time in nearly two years (four defenses ago) he's been in with someone who is even remotely fast after spending all of 2012 hunting sloths. :yep

    You have to respect Fres.

He knows his window is closing and has spent the last year calling out dangerous "who needs 'em" types like Darnell Wilson and Magomed Abdusallamov in desperate pursuit of a top contenders' ranking. After all that fruitless disappointment of himself getting branded as "who needs him?/too little reward to look bad against someone and possibly get upset by or carry around the albatross of a "robbery") he gets fast-tracked because of the dearth of options for the champ.

Nice hard-worker-hits-the-lottery story. Too bad it'll end in his first legitimate official* non-controversial KO loss.

(*not counting the exhibition match against Arlovski)

He SHOULD most certainly be facing Povektin after this debacle. In fact the only way he is allowed to fight this bum is if he signed the paper to fight AP as well so there should be a duel announcment.

Old Fres Oquendo is a worse choice than the obese Solis. :-(

I was hoping for an undefeated ranked contender like Ortiz, Boytsov or Pianeta (better opponents like Fury, Adamek, Helenius, and Pulev are not available).

But it's just a stay-busy fight while he waits for Povetkin in July.

In the last 3 years he's beat 4 journeyman and lost to old McCall and Mormeck. Terrible opponent!

Too big a risk to cancel a couple of weeks before the fight, because of the Ahmed Oner-Don King promotional legal/problems.

I still doubt it will be Oquendo. If so, he'll be receiving a lot of ridicule from the Klitschko haters.

One Russian website said this morning it might be Luis Ortiz, who is definitely a better opponent than old Fres.
