I think Waldo should get a little credit for putting fresh Povetkin on the canvas with a single left hook, a guy who had never been down as a pro. The fight easily could have been stopped in the 7th as Povetkin was getting battered by hooks and uppercuts amid a lot of sloppy but one sided action. I really thought his corner was going to throw in the towel after the 4th KD.
-When Wlad was actually quicker with his hands and feet. If someone attacked Wlad's body that effectively now I'm not completely sure he weathers it as well. -Wlad was doing an incredible amount of clinching in the first Peter fight just prior to Brock. Maybe the most he ever did. He was trying to do the same to Brock too. -Brock was slipping under Wlad's left and scoring with right crosses to his ribs before the inevitable clinch. Wlad couldn't stop that anymore now than he could then. If Brock was diviing at Wlad's chin with wild bombs like Peter I and Povetkin, he would have got clinched and smothered just the same.
That's pure disgraceful. Where do they pick these refs and judges from it shocks me to the point of disbelief
I believe camp wlad has to be happy with the ref selected so they have a big say on the matter and the refs know that :hey
Look at the haters! Pathetic arthropods.atsch I count like 10-20 clinches By Wlad. It was Povetkin with his head down coming for Wlad like a God damn CHARGING BULL. Cheater Sasha left no other choice for Wlad but catch this beast on his armpit and hold him there for good. Povetkin should be ashamed himself and apologise Wlad his rough house tactics.:deal
Wlad is amazingly talented so he would beat Povetkin even without this but to say its OK is ******ed, look at Brewster 1 fight ref did a great warned him from the beginning and he didnt clinch as much and that forced him to throw more and it was good to watch.
Brock vs Wlad -Wlad certainly looking to lean, clinch, and wrestle on the inside, especially in the 3rd and 4th rounds when he is really frustrated. It should be noted that Wlad even holds and hits like he does against Povetkin in the closing minute of Round 3. The difference is Brock concentrates his attack on the body, and manages to sneak in hard right crosses to Wlad's ribs before he can clinch. They start to add up and Wlad appears to get hurt in Round 4 from one. -In Round 5, Wlad starts dancing and committing to his jab, throwing I think about 57 of them to keep Brock on the outside. Unable to close the distance, Brock takes a bad beating from that point on, but I think he won arguably 3 or 4 of the first rounds and unlike so many opponents, actually forced Wlad out of neutral and made him work hard for the win. Nice research there, DaveK. My hunch is that a growing percentage of Wladimir defenders are simply mediators who don't like to see a world champion get stoned on the podium. You can only go so far in praising someone with severe flaws however. During all that clinching in the Povetkin bout, there were times when Wladimir blatantly latched onto him when unsure of what to do; that is not skill but action born of insecurity. For a man who has improved so much over the years (as certain folks like to proclaim) Wladimir has retained the nervous habits of a beginner. And if opponents are unable to take advantage of actions born of insecurity then we truly are in a dismal era. There is currently a thread which pits Joe Louis against Wladimir. Some of the opinions being posted there are about as agreeable as the suggestion of a bronze WBC belt. It appears that for every new generation arises new waves of ignorance that equates boxers to bombs and their size to TNT yield. Trying to imagine Wladimir box as he did in his last fight against Louis paints a concussive picture. Tentatively jabbing, mistimes a clinch, BANG! No more crimes against the sport which hooked you because of the drama it produces...we can but dream.
