Wlad vs Sultan Ibragimov NOW!

I dont want to see this fight, it should be either Chageav or Peter fighting Wlad not a weak champ like Iggy. I would honestly rather see Tua in against Wlad, that fight has better chance of being more competitive IMO.

 

Your bias is showing through. You just don't want that fight because it would legitimize the winner, which more than likely would be Wlad. It kills you doesn't it?! :yep :rofl

I don't care if Elmo or The Cookie Monster has the belt, they must try to unify or be concidered "a paper champ". Look how Showtime was trying to sell us fans that Peter was "The Real HW Champ" when Wlad has defended his belt 3 times so far & already beaten their paper champ by UD. Peter didn't even fight to get his belt, they just gave him an "Interim version" and he as well as Showtime are proclaiming that he's the man to beat - pathetic!

 

How am I bias, Im a boxing fan first and foremost. I just want to see the best match possible, and I know Iggy is not the best match out there.

I want to see the best fights possible, who cares if Wlad has 1 belt or 2 its not going to magically make the Heavywieght division popular again, but good competitive fights will. Wlad is the man until someone beats him, he is the champ right now unification or not.

Not magically, no. That's being a bit overly dramatic and taking it to the extreme just to make rational reasoning sound rediculous.

But one fighter, finally, starting to collect the belts and defnining a supreme, dominant champion that the public can take interest in seeing fight, and follow his career................THAT will certainly start to make the division popular agian. Having a unified champion will be the start of the division climibing back to its feet. :good

And having Wladimir, being 6 foot 7, white, and a doctor who holds a PHD, AND is also the unified heavyweight boxing champion............get him and his unique story on talk shows and news shows, and that will certainly start to get the public intersted in heavyweight boxing again.

 

Im saying it wouldnt help, but people want to see good matches not a fighter with 2 belts around his waist. Wlad lacks personality IMO, alot fans like to watch fighters who are out spoken and violent in there mannerisms like a Tyson or Toney.

I feel also the fact that he is well spoken will hurt him, many people aropund the world our not and want to cheer for someone like themselves. I feel thats part of the reason Lewis never got alot respect or popularity in the states, he is very well spoken as well. Most people would rather watch a poor mans Tyson, like Peter, than a not so exciting Wlad.

 

I venture to say that a Tyson type personaity is marketable from one extreme, and someone highly educated, well diciplined, and also dominant in the ring would be marketable from the other extreme.

The Tyson, thug on the loose type heavyweight champion has been done, but the Wlad kind of heavyweight champion is brand new and unique. Make that, VERY unique.

And for wanting merely a good matchup that's competitive.......well, that'd only last for one fight of 1.5 hours, and we'd be back to square one, with no champion to challenge and hold in high esteem.

Having unification fights, regardless of how competitive, will be very beneficial the division from now on.

 

Sultan wants to fight Chagaev. That fight should of already happend. The smae thing happend to Briggs, and Sultan fought tune up. Hopefullly now the fight can procede.

 

His personality is similiar to Lewis', bland and boring. Wlad certainly takes care of business in the ring, and is kinda exciting in doing so. Most people just cant identify with Wlad, most people are use to boxers coming from the streets and that had to fight to make money, Wlad comes from money and has PHD to boot.

Im not sure if you know where Im getting at or not, but most people are not that interested in Wlad as a whole, and he is the leader of the unpopular heavywieght division.

 

A Wlad type of heavyweight champion has never been seen before, so the novelty of it, alone, will take it pretty far. Then, as you said, he's pretty exciting when he takes care of busines in the ring, too.

 

The only thing I think is more important than unification is having more competitive fights and belt holders fighting more during the year, guys like Chagaev and Maskaev are hardly fighting enough.

 

Personally - I have to agree with what HeavyRH is saying in this
thread. Unification brings clarity to the sport. Ramdom matches
between Man U and Liverpool would be pointless without a cup
or a title in the equation, no matter how competitive they may
be.

The worse thing about the situation now is that casual fans,
friends of mine who are sports fans, don't know what's what
in the heavyweight division and they don't follow the sport
at all even at HW, net alone start taking an interest in the
other weights.

THe HW mess is keeping casual fans interest away. And that
translates into less money, less media coverage, less youngsters
looking into boxing, etc etc.

One unification bout would bring on full unification as the
double belt holder would be a big target.

Sultan is a HW champ ! So he should provide somekind of
decent fight for Wlad, if a HW champ isn't a challenge then
somethings ****ed up.

 

Im not totally disagreeing with HeavyRightHand, but just because Wlads puts another belt over his shoulder doesnt mean the division will be saved. Wlads personality and fighting style is not all that great, his fighting style was more exciting to watch before Manny got ahold of him.

I fell asleep during the Brock fight, I just opened my first beer and the Austin fight was over, and the Brewster fight was a one-sided beat down that not very exciting. The interesting fight Wlad had was against Peter 2 years ago, Wlad has become less exciting since hes been champ.

 

Damn . . . with that kind of showing against Holy?

Ibragimov might take the fight. The money would need to be right for him. Wlad is not one to talk much trash, but he did say he would end Ibragimov's career. Them's fighting words!
