Tim has a solid following in here. Lets take him on a good night, tho IMO he was sure inconsistent. Some good power, and quite good at big sneaky single shots here and there. Solid chin and good skills too. How does he go against today's top dawg?
If he's fit and focused Tim's a big chance here. Wlad has proven to be a dodgy starter on occasion and his tendency to freeze when hurt could play into Tim's hands.Witherspoon's overhand right (which he dubbed the can opener) had some serious power behind it (he had Mercer stunned with it at one point, and he destroyed Gonzalez with it when fat and old) and if he lands flush Wlad could be in deep trouble. If Klit can survive these early rough patches you'd have to favour him to get the job done with his size and excellent jab major factors. The Bonecrusher Smith blowout aside,Witherspoon was tough and durable and I think he'd last the distance probably losing a competitive decision.
i'll never forget him busting big frank bruno up late in the fight after being behind. watched by about 18 million on tv. i always liked tim witherspoon, seemed one of boxings gents.
Tim was ahead by three, two and three points at the time of stoppage. I used to think Bruno was winning too for some reason.
I don't think Wlad has the style or right set of skills to deal with Witherspoon's awkward Philladelphia style. Holmes had enough trouble trying to keep him at bay, and frankly Klitschko's boxing ability isn't what Larry's was. Additionally, Tim had a solid chin, good defense, servicable jab, ability to work the body and a deadly overhand right which he termed as " the can opener." I've seen him lay out many of fighters with that patented little bomb of his. Witherspoon also went 15 rounds on a few occasions, whereas Wlad never did nor ever will. The only flipside of course is that he had the tendency to show up tipping the scales and not looking too interested in fighting even during his best matches. This could be a problem against the always fit Wladimir. The other issue is that Wlad is typically troubled by left hooks, which was not a specialty for tim. Nevertheless, I think the terrible one has a good chance, but Wlad could also pull off a decision on the right night.
It was a damn competitive fight tho. I thought Frank was a great chance of the upset for the longest time.
Never saw the fight in its entirety, but I have on several occasions seen the huge overhand right that dropped Frank. Christ what a punch...
If Tim is in great shape which is always a maybe I think he would stop Wlad late while leading on the cards Witherspoon could be very good when he wanted to he could box well and could hit its a shame he never had great consistency I would have loved to have seen a rematch between him and Holmes I felt Tim won the first.
Witherspoon wins this one against the latest version of Wlad, Wlad is way too gun-shy to beat a skilled guy like Witherspoon .. a younger more mentally stronger version of Wlad could have beaten Tim but its quite sad to see a Heavyweight Champion with Wlads lack of confidence and a kind of scared look on his face when a punch is coming his way ....... Wlad is there to be taken, whether its Povetkin or Haye, hes gonna be finished soon
The overhand right, which is probably Witherspoon's favorite and most dangerous punch, is key here. I can see it putting Wlad on his ass early. Once that happens, Witherspoon has a field day more then likely.
