    No way!

Haven't watched this yet. Worth a watch? Sounds like Moreno wasn't as slick as advertised and Mares clearly outworked him in dirty fashion. Accurate?

Yeah TBH JFT i think Hawk was better then Karpency. Cleverly IMO ran out of idea's in the early rounds lots of arm punches and quantity as normal with him but a nice adjustment i think from his corner and he started to counter well and break Hawk down with more quality rather then quantity. Instead of rattling off 8 punches he'd box centre ring and land the quality to knock the fight out of the brave and actually mildly talented Hawk.

Good, Profressional display. The level of opponent must be taken into consideration but a good second display in the States for Nathan.

Could it have gone either way despite these cards? Or was it just too wide?

Unsettled him Flea, From get go never let Moreno settle down the way he likes to. It was illegal and legal, some quality was in there as well as just lots of work.

Moreno did well mind you, he hurt Mares twice with body punches. Pick his shots well in later rounds.

A decent fight to watch, Mares would get beaten by Donaire. I think Donaire would stop him.

I think it was a better performance than against Karpency - he was clearly more motivated, against STK he couldn't have looked less interested if he tried.

Still some things to work on, picking his shots better rather than just flurrying, you can't help but think that an opponent who can shorten their right hand would relish fighting him.

Same old same old really, plenty of good and a bit of bad, but the bad is more noticeable.

I think Clev would be a good addition to the division over there, if he can recover what he showed in the 2nd half of the Murat fight the Yanks would love him, he looked like a terminator at times in that one.

Morel hasn't been relevant for years and wasn't insanely good even at his best. A typical lower weight titlist of recent era's.

Has Mares been the no.1 in any division?

Very good run though, agreed, and like Froch overcomes a seemingly basic skillset to prove critics wrong over, and over again (beat Agbeko far better second time round IMO) but for me, he'll prove his P4P credentials if he beats Nonito. Until then he's just one of the very best contenders. I don't Froch as highly as some as he's never been the champion.

As I say, haven't seen the fight yet but never been truly sold on Moreno. I thought he'd outpoint Mares but I'm actually quite happy he's been hit in the bollocks and overwhelmed. Maybe after watching I'll become not only an admirer but a fan of Mares ;)

I had Moreno scraping by but I seem to be in a clear minority here. Mares jumped him from the start and had him looking very uncomfortable at times but was hurt to the body twice and often picked of at centre ring. He was also once allowed to get away with numerous 'infringements' such as low blows, elbows and kidney blows. Yet bizzarely it was Moreno who was docked a point for pushing Mares head down.
Even Captain Nice Guy Al Bernstein was getting pissed off.

The judge who had it a shutout deserves to be gang raped by a pod of
    Dolphins. In the ear.

I had it 115-112 for Mares and the point deduction was bull****.

I can see Moreno getting it by a point but no more than that. There were some really tight and scrappy rounds which could have gone either way. Mares was the busy fighter on the front foot though so you can see why he got those rounds.

The 120-106 card was just :rofl. No way did Mares come even close to winning every single round.

With regards to the 120-106 card by judge Dr James Jen-Kin Paulies response "Honestly, the poor guy, he missed a great fight," was rather apt.:D

Yeah I guess it was pretty good really. I was really looking forward to Lara-Vanes, which was the only let down and probably the only reason I didn't enjoy the night more.

Mares is really ugly to watch most of the time.he doesn't really have any notable skill or particularly strong basic punches(punches are cuffing and messy) but he's a trier and awkward with quite quick feet to close the gap.Add in dirty as hell and he'll be tough to be beat clearly with that kind of reffing unless you're very good.

I like Moreno, he's trying his best to get that old school Panama slickster thing going on, but he's not quite sharp enough to pull it off.More just a solid, tricky fighter than the special talent some in general were starting to see him as.He can barely infight, nor does he have particularly sharp or consistenty accurate punching on the outside. Most of his straight punches fall short.

Defensively i've thought he looks vulnerable to good straight punches-his reflexes and radar\sense of distance aren't that great, even though he has a solid understanding of defensive positioning. Mares had most of his better moments when he kept a tight stance and threw straight punches after Moreno had fallen short with his. When he opened up he was mostly just cuffing arms\shoulders and hitting air with innacurate sloppy punches.IF Moreno had an inside game he could have taken advantage of how open Mares was when he punches in extended combination, but it just degenerated into a maul and foul fest at close range.

I thought Mares deserved a close decision win, though neither fighter did much clean work.No 10-8 rounds imo.
