Both Fury and Wlad were guilty of rabbit punches but only Fury loses a point, then the icing on the cake has to be Wlad being so frustrated he grabs hold of Fury in the 11th and sticks the nut on him in front of the ref and gets away with it. Let’s not mention the extra ring padding or Wlad wearing platforms in his shoes pre fight.Wlad could not do anything with Fury mentally or physically in 2015 and Fury is a far better, experienced seasoned fighter now. Fury did not even owe Wlad a rematch as he was mandatory but only got the fight if he agreed to the rematch, then Fury was stripped of the IBF belt within 10 days because of the enforced rematch clause and then went on a monumental drink/drug binge which ended in a mental breakdown as well as the fact Wlad got schooled in the fight with Fury the clear winner.Do people actually think that Wlad wins a rematch now ? LOL
One thing with Wlad: He had huge Talent but he didnt put everything together like Fury. All the tools but no toolbox. (On the highest level) He could have won against Fury but he didnt. He should have won against Joshua but he didnt. He held back because of fear. Not a champion mindset. Joshua was done and free for the taking but Wlad let him rest for 5 rounds... First after the Fury loss- "I didnt let my hands go" THEN he did the exact same thing against Joshua when he had him to the ropes... WTF really!? Thats not a champion mindset at all. Very disappointing with Wlad.
Depends entirely on Fury. A fully motivated Fury beats 40 year old Wlad every time. The only way Wlad was winning that rematch was if Fury turned up out of shape.
Are we still discussing that? Wlad was mad accepting Fury toyed him, did whatever he wanted and took almost the entire fight, like 9-10 rounds. All this on like Wlad's own soil. And Wlad was well prepared, he otherwise used to train a lot, was a real professional (and a cheater), but even doing so he was unable to rival Fury. A rematch wouldn't have been much different, like Wlad takind like 4-5 rounds at best. Close that page, whether you like Fury or not, it is what it is. The victory was fair and spectacular.
Wlad looked like a fossil in that fight. Fury's Ali-like fighting tactics were beautiful. This fight showed the inevitable of Wlad facing the top HWs at 40.
People love to point out the fact that Wlad was old, while completely ignoring the fact that it was the only time in his career he fought someone taller and with linger reach than him who also happened to be skilled. Yeah the fight was boring, but it's idiotic to pretend either one of these points didn't play any part in how the fight unfolded.
He was talking about that in his earliest interviews. Carry on, though, it clearly means a lot to you.
Same for me. He dominated for so long. In his early days he went out too hard instead. Either it was fear of gassing out or Corrie Sanders counter ptsd. But he should have knew or felt when he had the chances to go for it. Against low threat comp he had a good killer instinct. Like the highlight reel triple left hook KO. He could have used that against AJ instead of single leapaping hooks followed by safety grabs. He had it in him somewhere. That was most frustrating with Wlad.
A couple of those leaping hooks shook Joshua to his core. The round Wlad was first knocked down he came back to almost stop him, for me Wlad won that round despite the Matchroom cards all showing 10-8.
Wlad would have learned from the first fight, and would have been much more aggressive, as he was and the Samuel Peter rematch, and again in the Anthony Joshua rematch …….and would probably have knocked fury, clean out Wlad had more power than ANYone fury has ever faced, but he did not get to land it cleanly A rematch would have been very different…..
