to be fair, i wouldn't necessarily either but it's possible. the right hand for me almost as much as the jab. when he uses the right, it's faster and straighter than most champs in history and with a ton of concussive force as well. it's versatility is in question but it's effectiveness isn't

Wlad has had many great knockouts, and great showings. Mercer was just one of those fighters that you don't see very often. A guy who could keep standing up to a terrible beating long enough, while still pressing forward enough for a guy like Wlad to put his offensive arsenal on full display. Normally guys either go out... or start running, hiding, playing defense and/surviving as soon as they feel Wlad's power early. Its much harder to look as impressive, or exciting against a fighter who isn't trying to fight.

Well... consider that... and then consider the fact that most people who have fought him, or sparred with him say that his left hook is even better and more dangerous than his right hand.

that's my point will all of Wlad's punches really. For example, he throws a stronger/heavier right hand than Charles or Tunney but is he as versatile with it as either guy is? Or as fast, to be honest? How would it fare against more mobile, and skilled opponents, nahmean? In a division with guys who threw incredible rights as far as timing, versatility... Very hard to say. Louis, Lewis, Charles, Tunney, Dempsey, Foreman, Tyson, Ali, Shavers, Walcott, and a couple others i'd throw over Wlad here.

no denying wlad's raw atheletic potential as a puncher; his shots are accurate, powerful with good speed and his overall technique is pretty efficient nowadays... it's just uninspired. when someone's a real "artist" with a punch they can throw tons of different variations of it against different guys and make it work. I don't see that flexibility in wlad as far as really almost all his punches.

Wlad's left> his right. Is he a natural lefty?

that's fair but in terms of artistry i'd put it in the same league as louis (who was brilliant but also robotic) and beyond shavers and foreman. louis was more versatile in that he could through it from more ranges but really knew one way to fight, even in his prime

whoa bro, Louis threw an epic short cross and countered with it like a beast. He also threw a sweet right to the body which is really what stopped schmeling in his tracks the second time around. Wlad just kinda throws it at range at a dudes head as part of a 1-2. It's a good punch, and an epic long range weapon but not that versatile. I gave Foreman and Shavers the right hand nod for sheer G.O.A.T. destructive power.

:lol:yeah that's a little harsh on louis but he was limited by being a textbook fighter. i just never got the impression of being an improvisational genius or jazz artist in his fights like you saw with guys like pep or walcott. louis knew how to fight, how to punch and that's what he did. he couldn't throw a punch poorly (or unorthodox) if he had to

foreman and shavers were the hardest two rights in heavy history for me...(though i constantly struggle as to where to place max baer)

Eh, people talk a lot about his textbook boxing so much they lose sight of the fireworks he popped off when he went for the kill. The combination that put Conn to sleep, the wild barrage he used to execute JJW, he was capable of pulling out some brilliant stuff when he got the openings he was looking for

agreed on Baer, one thing's for certain....it was a killer

First, the best jab now the best hook. These Klicktards need to understand that boxing history didn't start with the Klitchkos.

good point, he certainly broke the pattern when dismantling conn...and the jersey joe knock out was more vicious than i've ever seen him. as a whole though i do think he was constrained by his style, however not nearly as constrained as wlad, whose right hand is solely reliant on a medium distance and jab to set it up

see I think its a great hook for seveal reasons one being the way he turns his jab over to it cuz his oppanant does not expect it or see it coming the other being he only needs a couple a inches and he can knock you out..:thumbsup
