Stop saying someone can beat him, not even Sam Peter, cause as soon as they lose it was another "syle mismatch" Have you not realized yet, if your 6'6 or above, and have tons of skill and power to go around, your a style mismatch for everyone.. Yes Wlads chin can fget caught and lose the fight but for the most part he has enough heart to get up, but theres always the chance he really gets layed out....But than he will get a rematch and beat whoever down, either that or big brother will come out of retirement. Wlad is going to be around for a while, and is most likely a future hall of famer, some of you may not think he has tons of competition, but look what he does to the little he does have. Note: Dont call me a nuthugger just because im not a hater like a good portion of these forums ;-)
He should dominate for a few more years, but I think Sanders and Brewster have demonstrated that there will always be at least a remote possibility that a heavy hitter might be able to catch him
To beat Wlad you need fast, hard hands, and either size or footspeed to get those hands past Wlads jab and onto his immobile head (he has even less head/upper body movement than Vitali). Moving, jabbing and clinching sums up his defence for the most part, and while effective, the sort of offensive capability I mentioned will show the weaknesses in a defence that lacks head/upper body movement. Frankly though, there isn't a single top 20 heavyweight with those qualities going around, Chagaev used have those qualities when he was younger and lighter, but he's only become bigger, slower and more immobile every time i've seen him. Valuev has the size, strength but he arm punches and everything but his jab is in slow motion. The only guys who have the qualities to beat Wlad are retired and/or well past it (e.g, Lewis, Holy, Hide, Tyson, Tua, Ibeabuchi) or still unproven prospects (Haye, Solis). On that note Povetkin unfortunately won't be beating wlad anytime soon with his style, he needs to make the sort of improvements that aren't possible in the span of two fights (particulary with defence, a boost in punching power wouldn't hurt either). Some speculate a fighter can 'outlast Wlad' or 'catch him late' but there's no guarantee of that anymore since the Peter fight. You've got to have excelllent stamina, power, plus the sort of chin that can hang with Wlad 12 rounds, even Peter was hurt in the 12th. There aren't any prime Mercers or Tuas around to try and succeed doing what Peter did.
Thank you. I couldnt help but notice there were some great names mentioned there...Not to mention not just any run of the mill fighter can even have the qualities you listed. :happy
I've always liked Wlad but he just lacks the pizzaz that I think a HW champ needs. His personality is bland and he is far from the warriors of the past he avoids real action......but he is dominate at the moment and he works towards perfection in a far from flawless sport. I'm 50/50 with him.
Vlad's chin is a good one, a bad is a myth. Vlad was drugged in the fight with Brewster, no doubt about it. Vlad is the best heavyweight in the world today and nobody will beat him, unless someone can drug him again. Vitali is coming back, Don King does not want his fighter Peter to come near him. Vitali will knock Peter out, if Maskaev does not do it first.
It's remarquable that the only chance current heavyweights seem to have in a fight vs. Wladimir, is the puncher's chance. Right now, I don't see anybody who could beat him by winning the rounds. Klitschko is really good in avoiding a war and shutting down the opponent systematically. He is a boxing artist. Problem is, in many people's eyes you got to win wars to be a real champ.
