Why is he never deducted points for excessive holding and for his continual holding out of his left hand without throwing a punch?
If I did that in the amatuers I would be warned within a round.

It's true though, he throws the 1-2 and falls in and clinches.

I thought Peter was more guilty of it. When his wild swing of the left hook didn't work, his backup plan was to duck his head and clinch.

I think both were guilty Peter leaned in but Wlad rather than throw the upercuts and box his way out against an obviously tiring fighter who was an easy target he was happy to oblige and just clinch for long periods until the ref scolded peter and he could be back at range for the nice 1-2

Why is that illegal? As long as you aren't actually pushing against the opponent I see nothing wrong with holding out an arm. You could just claim its your stance/guard

What Wlad was doing last night was completely different to what Lewis would do when he held an opponent against the ropes with his left, then hit with his right. I can understand that being illegal

Nothing wrong with anything Wlad did last night.

Truth is he's a great fighter who would hold is own with any heavy in any era.

Both were guilty of it, Peter because of sheer exaustion at times

Clinching is part of the game, it's up to the opposite corner to point it out to the ref if it's being done excessively. If Cotto had clinch against Margarito he might have seen it out.

The holding out of the hand without throwing a punch is technically illegal, but a smart move. It's called "Blind folding" and is done by others like Andre Ward. It's a tactic used for just that, to blind the opponent with the lead hand and can be used for offense aswell as defence. Ali did this against Liston in the first fight. It's just a trick of the trade that some fighters do like hitting on the hips if they have a incompetent ref in there or can hide it well.

The Sanders fight is now completely irrelevant in any assessment of Wlad's career. Like Pac's loss to Singsurat.

Has he cut out that gay hand slapping yet?

Must have done it a million times against Iggy.
