The WBO is as legit as any other ABC belt. It wasn't always this way but due to the top 3 being so corrupt it became this way.
In fact lately the WBO has been far more realistic with their ratings than the WBA or the WBC which are both tied up with bull**** mandatory defenses, iterim champions, champions in recess & champion emeritus. No doubt the WBC & WBA are probably working on a few more eliminators so their champions won't have the time to fight Wladimir for unification.
You are forgetting.. these are the 90's heavyweights that we are talking about here. You know... the same group of heavyweights that were considered an extremely weak era of heavyweights when they were active. Well... they have been bronzed since then. Accomplishments, or who they actually fought doesn't matter. Bowe gets a pass for all of his bad performances... he "wasn't the same fighter" since he was getting his ass kicked. Lennox Lewis... well he morphs into different "versions" of himself for every bad performance or knockout loss, so they don't count. Mike Tyson was shot by the time he hit 23 years old... so the only fights of his that count are the ones where he was cleaning out C-Level fighters. Evander Holyfield has been shot and un-shot about 25 times, and his mediocre record at heavyweight is not an issue, and it doesn't count. Michael Moorer was knocked out by an old man... but that's ok. Isn't it funny how a former Cruiserweight, in Holyfield, an extremely old Foreman... and a former light heavyweight in Michael Moorer could rise so fast to the top of that division... yet people try to bash fighters like Wlad for beating guys like Byrd, and talk about this era being pathetic because old fighters still try to make a run for it... just like every other era. I have learned a couple years ago that there is no point in trying to convince them with facts, and reality. They aren't interested in the truth, or anything that resembles logic. Sometimes, I still come around to throw a bunch of logic in their face, just in case they really start believing what they say... but in the end, none of it matters. People who just spit hatred aren't the type of people who are heard when you look back in the history books. I don't hate the other era's of heavyweights, and I respect them all. I just like to simply point out all of the double standards that the haters use in order to bash our current fighters.
fummy how foreman ducked nay decent fighters to get the belt, holyfield would be a greta fighter in any era and moorer was never really a lhw (talk about weight drained)
Cute. Bowe was actually Undisputed Champion, and beat a prime ATG twice. Same cant be said for Waldo can it?
Again, funny. McCall KOed an ATG for the WBC title. roughly equal, slightly better as Brewster KOed a non ATG, for a crappy WBO title. Rahman Koed an ATG to become undisputed champion. Something Wlad has failed to do. Brewster did what? KO Wlad for the WBO piece of tat, go life and death a couple for times, then get beat a couple of times. Not a stellar career.
I think Wlad ranks higher than Bowe.... But Bowe won the undisputed title, Wlad needs to make himself undisputed to seal his legacy. Trouble is, the standard of opponent generally is pretty low - so even doing it won't move him that much further up the rankings. I think our friend is referring to Bowe ditching the WBC to avoid Lennox.
And that's about all he's done in his entire career. He also lost to him, and the third fight was over more because of Holyfields disease rather than what Bowe did. In fact, Bowe was closed to being stopped in the 5th, but Holyfield's stamina had been draining away since the 4th and it was basically his last hurray. He also beat a few good fighters in Donald (undefeated) and Hide (dito), but other than that, his resume is razor thin and mostly filled with recycled 80's heavyweights. He was ranked in the Ring top10 from 1990 to 1996, Wlad from 2000 to 2008 and still more to come. Bowe was also thoroughly thrashed twice by Andrew Golota, who basically lost to any good fighter. And he disgraced the title by rather throwing it in the trashcan than to face Lennox Lewis. Not exactly a plus for your legacy, especially considering it was a chance to avenge his loss to him in the Olympics, when the whole world was watching and he got stopped.
hoylfield was still good like it or not he just beat one of the current heayweight champs many years later and vitali was in far better shaoe than lewis for the fight come back when you got something better nut hugger.
