Who has Wlad beat that remotely compares to Lewis? Then reverse the question.

Then consider who has the better intangibles.

Great post! Everybody, who thinks that Lewis would have KOed Wlad in first or second round, is trying to make Wlad look like Michael Grant. But Wlad is 10000 times better than Grant - he has much better skills, timing, power, experience, he has better jab, better right hand, better defence, better movement, better reflexes, even better chin. Wlad stopped McCline in 10 one-sided rounds just a year after McCline KTFOed Grant in 1 round.
Lewis was great, he defenitely has better resume than Wlad. But when Lewis fans are talking something like: "Wlad never fought fighters like Grant, Golota, Briggs, Bruno, Tua" - it looks ridiculous.
- Wlad beat prime McCline, who needed just 43 seconds to KO Michael Grant. McCline beat Briggs in one-sided fight (99-90 on all 3 cards) as well.
- Wlad easily beat Byrd twice. The same Chris Byrd who easily outboxed Tua (BTW, in Byrd fight Tua weighed only 233 pounds - he was in his best shape in years)
- Wlad beat Brewster, who needed just 52 seconds to stop Golota.
- Is Zelko Mavrovic better than Calvin Brock? I don't think so. Both were undefeated, but Brock at least beat McCline and few good jorneymen (Ettienne, Lawrence, Smith, Timor Ibragimov). Mavrovic best win was Julius Francis:rofl!
- Is Akinwande better, than Sultan Ibragimov? NO!

In my opinion, Wlad's resume is thin compared to Lewis' one, only because of three fights - 2 Holyfield fights and Vitaly fight. I know, Holy was past his prime when Lewis fought him, but he still was a great fighter and WBA/IBF champion.

 

You are even worse when comparing the Klitschko brothers than when discussing Ali.

Wlad knows who would prevail in such a match-up and has stated so, several times.

(And besides, by your own way of arriving at these things, Vitali is bigger and hence better, right ?)

The link doesn't necessarily prove what you contend. It has to be evaluated on its own merits. But at least it's a starting point. Merely typing some stuff inside quotes isn't even a start.

There is no first hand record of Liston admitting anything regarding either fight.

Many people (including Ali) believe he could have gotten up in the second fight, but that's a far cry from a fix.

He had other reasons for taking a dive.

(If I was to fight Mike Tyson, I would take a dive at the first jab he threw.

I would have then taken a dive and 'thrown' the fight.

But would it have made any difference if I hadn't and put my best effort forth?)

That's just politeness.

Not "hence better", but it would be definitely harder for Wlad than to fight a smaller Vitali.

Actually you were partly correct. Lewis wasn't considered a real champion at all until he beat Holyfield. He was still wasn't considered a dominant Champion at that point. In reality, his reign as true Champ was actually rather weak.

 

I doubt Wladimir would have been caught by *that* punch.

The again Lennox went out cold from a lesser punch from Rahman.

Very few question the first fight. And it was the first fight's nature and outcome that (possibly) prompted Liston to stay down for the second one.

Ali yelled at him to get up and accused him (while standing over him ) of faking.

Liston had his pride, and while he did not fear pain, he did not want to be made to look foolish.

(DUran felt the same way in his rematch with Leonard).

 

Wlad's reign is not finished.:good I think that it is off to a great start.

To me, it is a pretty audacious statement to make (that Wlad would win) but to Lennox-haters and Wlad fanboys perhaps not.

 

It's always a landslide when this subject comes up, and it's always the same thing from the WALDO fans - "his career isn't finished yet" :rofl

You only have to look at their respective competition levels to see what a blatantly obvious pick this is.
