Of course he is up there. A 245lb conditioned athlete with great potential for leverage with a knockout ratio to rival the best.

He wears opponents down (as did Tyson) but he can also score a KO with a single punch (as could Tyson).

It is not inconceivable that he can hit harder than a lot of the GOATS.

    Top Fifteen Hardest Hitting HWs

    1. Earnie Shavers (Ali said it, nuff said)
    2. Mike Tyson (arguably #3)
    3. George Foreman (arguably #2, punching style is similar to Vitali's)
    4. Joe Louis
    5. David Tua (monster left hook, but right hand underrated, see Tua v Moorer)
    6. Wladimir Klitschko (arguably #7, awesome textbook straight right, awesome left hook, when he uses it)
    7. Vitali Klitschko (arguably #6, very powerful, wide looping, hayemaker-like shots with both hands, not pretty but very powerful)
    8. Joe Frazier (largely because of his left hook)/Sonny Liston (tie for 8th)
    9. Lennox Lewis
    10. Shannon Briggs
    11. Tommy Morrison (largely because of his left hook)
    12. Jack Dempsey (don't really know much about this guy so don't know where to put him, need help on this one)
    13. Riddick Bowe
    14. Ike Ibeabuchi
    15. Razor Ruddock

I would really appreciate any suggestion on how to improve this ranking. I put Klitschkos relatively high all time because I think that their massive dimensions, especially height and muscle, give them a tremendous base from which to generate insane strength and power. The Klitsckos are, along with George Foreman in his prime, the most physically imposing specimens to ever fight at HW. Tyson was mean and ripped but to me, in terms of physical presence, ranks below these three behemoths.

Top 10 without a doubt. I know Roach has said before that Wladimir hits harder than Tyson, I know other fighters that fought both him and Lewis have said he his a harder puncher than Lewis.

Wladimirs jab routinely stuns his opponents, no one walks through it. Every right hand he throws has always been a stunner, even if the guy doesnt go down, you can always see they are hurt by it.

Top 10 probably. I would venture to say his jab is top 3 of all-time in the power department, I honestly wouldn't disagree with someone if they thought it was the most powerful of any heavyweight. I hate Wlad as a fighter, but his power will never be in question from me.

Vlad has and extremely short left hook, watch Vlad Vs. Shufford. He is one of the hardest punchers ever. Vlad has great skills to go along with his power.

I wouldn't put him in the Shavers/Foreman/Tua bracket.

Vitali's power is massively overrated IMO. Wlad hits much harder.

Fisrt there is a BIG difference in the way a punch is delivered.
Tyson was bombing the F! out you from the Gate. 90% of his punches were bombs.
You could say Marciano was the same way.
I would rate Wlad top 3 of all time cause he isn't bombing to get these guys out. Just throwing a punch.

i'd rank him in the top 15 for sure and maybe top ten, but i find the question a bit irrelevant, if you fight like a girl like against sultan ibragimov who cares how hard you hit? guys that were ferocious like dempsey and liston or relentless like frazier are much more compelling

How ironic that the champion with the highest KO percentage is also the most boring heavyweight champion in history.

Klit fans should be embarrased by that stat.

Its hard to look good against guys who don't come to fight. Lewis looked like a joke against McCall in the rematch for 2-3 rounds as McCall completely let his guard down and was crying and shaking his head, yet Lewis couldn't knock him out.

His power is up there for sure. Whether he hits harder than a Lennox or Tyson is splitting hairs, especially considering both were more aggressive than Wlad. But bottomline is that ANYONE Wlad has landed on, has been stunned, hurt, knocked down or knocked out. And that's a fact. Not many other boxers can hold that claim.

That right hand he knocked down Byrd with during the 5th round of their rematch was just picture-perfect. Made a sick, thudding noise, too.
