Wladamir's Punching Power among the all time great punchers at HW?

Hesaid in an interview a couple years ago McCline him the hardest back in late 04 when they fought. He said he was knocked out from the punch and once his ass hit the canvas he woke back up. Watch how he looked going down in slow motion, his eyes are closed, and when he hits the canvas he jumps back up instantly. If you get the chance, check it out.

 

Wlads mechanics on hooks prevents him from maxing out the impact, at the advantage of speed. He also differs in the impact mechanics of the hand, he snaps, Lewis pounds. That's why Lewis has definetly higher impact in his hooks, perhaps in the 30% region. On total power output over the round, on the non-powerpunches, Wlad should be in the top 3. He has incredible output on the workman punches, setting up his powerpunches.

Vitali had very hard punches back then when he had a functional shoulder. He KOed a guy bloodying his face through that ones guard after Wlad lost to Purrity, on the same card. After his shoulder surgery, he reduced to pounding punches that take a toll over time, no one punch KO power.

 

I hear what your saying, but your in a fight, you must do what you have to do. I would lay money down that both Tyson and Holyfield would of went in for the kill. If I remember correctly, the commentators even called Lewis out during the fight, saying something along the lines of Lewis not having what Tyson has to get fans attention.

 

lewis did what was needed to win but there was no need to try and take the guys head off. I agree Tyson would have taken his head off regardless but that is why Tyson is regarded as an animal and Lewis is regarded as a gentleman who went all the way to the top in the sport. Personally i think Fights like Botha prove Lewis had a killer instinct... i don't think KO'ing a guy who is looking the other way and crying defines killer instinct... just a lack of morals

 

Waldo has great power but the punches that really hurt people are the ones that they dont see coming and Waldo is a little predictable. Waldo also doesn't always commit and mix up his punches as he is a safety-first fighter. However he would have far better results if he added more variety to his (excellent) skills - for example throwing more uppercuts.


The more I watch Lewis and Waldo fights the more I realize that Waldo is going to be appreciated once he's gone, just like Lewis.

Like Lewis - he wont ever be appreciated by some people (the grunts) because:
1. he doesnt act like a thug
2. he fights with his brain and wants to keep his senses intact
3. he's not American


Anyway it doesn't matter - WK is securing his legacy and this is his time.

 

There is no need to compare him to other punchers... who cares who hit harder wlad or tyson or louis... could they all knock out their opponents with a single shot ? yes. so wlad is definitely up there in top 20. anyone who claims otherwise a ****in fool or a hater...

Holyfield would of went in for the kill as well. It also didn't help Lewis' killer instinct was questioned even before the McCall fight, this fight just made fans question it even more.

I dont want a gentleman in the ring, as much as I dont want to bang girl that just lays there in bed. I actually grown to kinda like Lewis' and feel he was a tough fighter that traded punchers with big hitters and came out on top 9 times out of 10. So when people compare him and Wlad, I laugh. Physically they are almost the same fighter, mentally "The Lion" owns Wlad. Lewis can take a big punch without having a panic attack or sprawling to the canvas, thats the big difference between the two.

 

I tend to agree, but let's do comparisons once Wlad hangs up the gloves and is retired. Only then the comparison will be fair.

Wlad still has a chance to cement his legacy with 2-3 defining fights in his career. Or get knocked out by some bum and forgotten forever.

 

I would love to see Wlad knocked out cold by a nobody, which could be any heavyweight contender these days, not named Haye.:yep

 

I think we have a winner folks! This would be the general opinion of the Brits that post here. The same guys who say Frank Bruno has a better jab than Wladimir....................

I've always said that Wladimir & Lennox have a lot more in common than not. Both have great jabs, awesome skill, huge power & supposedly suspect chins.

Few here remember that Lewis was HATED by most boxing fans, even in his own country of England. I always saw the talent level of Lewis & I picked him to KO Tyson while all my friends were picking Mike by early KO. I was right.................:yep

 

Yes classic case of "the grass is always greener on the other side"

Many of the same things said about Wlad now were said about Lewis when he was fighting, that he was boring, too cautious, held too much ect. Steward has Wlad fighting LIKE LEWIS. but since Lewis is a few years retired people have a nostalgia for him and now he was super exciting.

Look what happened with Vitali during the layoff. Vitali has many more fans now than he did in 2004 because everyone that was talking **** about him in 2004 started to miss him by the time of his comeback.

 

I'm not really impressed with Wlad's jab. Sure, he can punch - but I think guys like Lewis, Tyson, Ruddock, Tua, Foreman were better punchers than the reluctant Klit...

 

Wlad's jab is up there with such all time great jabs as Louis, Liston, Ali, Holmes, Tunney, etc. To claim otherwise is to admit you haven't seen many of his fights or just don't know what the **** you're talkin' about.
