From what I have read lately if Wladimir beats Ibragimov he is going to have both Povetkin and Thompson wait and go after either Chagaev or the winner of Maskaev vs Peter. I hope this is true. What do guys think should do?

    Where did you read that?

I hope he does. A fight against both, Chagaev or Maskaev-Peter winnr, would be great. I think Povetkin is too green and would be beaten, and Thompson is nothing.

I am reading between the lines. In a press release by Povetkin's promoter they have said Wlad's lawyers have told them thay have to wait for there shot I think Wlad has 9 months to give them one.
I have also read that Thompson will fight Harrison on a Wlad undercard so it looks like Wlad has made a deal with him because the WBO give,s a new champ 18 months to fight ther mandatory also Wlad has said he wants to fight the other champs. Chagaev will have 9 months to take on the winner of Valuev vs Liakhovich so there is a window there:hat

So, what you're saying is, why not try to squeeze in unification and mandatories? :think :thumbsup

Exactly. He also needs the activity to keep at the top of his game.

we'll be lucky if he fights three times. no chance for 4. even if wlad wanted to which i doubt, hbo isnt gonna fork over the dough.

the best case scenario would be:
    Feb: Sultan
    Jun: Chagaev
    October: Povetkin

that would be an awesome year for wlad. two unifications fights and the best young hw. i would be floored if chagaev fights wlad, especially since kohl is involved. more likely he fights his 2 mandotories after sultan this year.

I like that scenario except that Povetkin doesn't seem ready. I wouldn't mind if he fought someone like Tony Thompson instead.

i really wish thompson would go away as wlad's mandatory. such a pointless fight just like austin. decent hw who is almost like a poor man's version of wlad. anyone who saw his fight with Iggy jr. would agree. wlad has every advantage imaginable.

i would rather wlad drop the wbo than waste his time with this guy. povetkin is a much better name and brings some interesting tools to a fight.

If Wlad beats Ibragimov as expected, he will have two belts. From here he sould fight the Chagaev next for another heavyweight title unifcation match that will have three belts at stake.

IMO, any man who has three belts will rekindle the lineal flame. Fans could care less is one organization strips him of a belt.

The key here is money. If Chagaev is offered say, 3-4X the money he made vs Skelton, his management might opt to make a business move and risk him vs Wlad.

He should KO the winner of Peter/Maskaev.

tony thompson would be a waste of time, 3 months of preparation for an opponent who is so clearly inferior of him? he is better than austin but wlad should focus on important fights.
