Tyson is an ATG because he dealt with his opponents in swift and undisputed manner. 1-2 round KOs, in devastating destruction.
Vlad isn't qualified to hold Tyson's Jock strap and would lose badly to most of the contenders of Tyson's era.:yep

You can only fight whos in your time period. I don't think he has an ATG resume, but I would definitely argue that he could be competitive with any era of the HW division. For one simple fact he's bigger, or as big as any HW ever. Guys like Marciano, Joe Louis, Ali weren't near the size of Wlad and Vitali. He's not the greatest inside fighter, and he doesn't have the most exciting style (LL wasn't all that exciting in some of his fights either, but fans now have overlooked that).
I'd say Vitali ranks higher in ATG status, and I seriously wouldn't bet on any HW through history to beat him H2H. Exciting style, decent punching power, 6'8 250, indestructable chin (LL proved that much).

I don't really understand you guys.

You've got guys like Dempsey, Marciano, Holmes, guys who fought a lot of what some of you would call nobodies, and THEY are ATGs in the heavyweight division. Even Good ol' Joe fought against a bum of the month club, some club security and waiters. Even Tyson fought a bunch of no-hopers in his first reign.

But then in an age where in boxing, this guy who has legitimate skills (no matter how boring), legitimate athleticism and then large size, with a greatly amassed resume, TRAINED BY ONE OF THE BEST TRAINERS OF ALL TIME, is NOT an ATG?

If Wlad had campaigned from 1970 - 1978 he would have struggled to be a top 5 contender - yeah , i'll catch heat for saying that but on last nights showing I cam imagine how a ernie shavers or ken norton would have got tore into Wlad instead of just stood there posing like haye was doing ,

Frazier would have ate a ton of jabs to get in and underneath him then would have put a serious beating on Wlads torso , Ali would have simply humiliated him.
