I think regardless of his dire opposition, it is a great achievement.

Its not his fault there is no one good to fight out there, you can only beat who is put infront of you, which he does. He had a few losses when he was younger but has learned from his mistakes and found a way of fighting that makes him almost unbeatable.

He also conducts himself very well

 

it is an impressive feat but let's be honest, the competition has been poor for the most part so that somewhat takes the shine off it

 

His path to greatness, much like Louis', is to dominate and achieve greatness through longevity.
One must keep in mind though, that Louis fought in an era where there was only one heavyweight that could be called champion, and he was it. There were never two. Never.

The era of fractured titles has allowed a fair few fighters to become champions when in reality they were champions on paper only. In Louis' era, they may have only been contenders.

With that in mind, it poses some interesting scenarios. If there was only one champion today, then would Wlad be that guy? Hard to say. Vitali would be lurking around, and he would either be champion or contender at some point.
Would Wlad have had to challenge Lewis for the title? Would he wait it out until Lewis retired? Who would he fight for the vacant title? Vitali?

Of course Wlad is not the only champ by any means to profit from fractured championships and paper belts, but I'm just illustrating a point.

What Louis did, make 25 successful defences of the (THE) Heavyweight Championship of the World, is a feat that likely will never be repeated.

 

Here is another interesting thought both Holmes and Wlad took a lot of fighters '0' away. I know the competition wasn't the best for either guy but that is impressive....

 

To a point yes...but fighters are a lot more protected today, hence lots of '0's'. Padded records and all that.
