Wald looks good against overmatched opponents (sometimes not, Sultan, Austin etc) but you cant win fights against similar level or superior opposition with a china chin.

Whenever I look back at videos of fights from top guys from the 70's I can't believe how slow they are and how little movement there is. I really don't think they are on another level to today's Hw's at all.

 

Klitschko TKO 8 Cooney. Faster hands, more disciplined boxer, physically stronger, better power (especially in right hand). Cooney makes it tough early on, maybe even drops Klitschko once or twice, but Wlad gradually breaks Gerry down and takes him out.

 

Agreed. Cooney is grossly underrated, but Wlad beats him easily and maybe even early if he gets his left hook right hand flush on Cooney.

 

No, but as I've mentioned before the left hook was one of Cooney's better weopons. Southpaw or not, he could definately land that punch.

You are not nuts and anybody can understand that by watching how 6'6'' tall Gerry took it inside and toe to toe, pushing Norton against the ropes in MSG, sometime ago and with Harold Lederman as an Official judge. Cooney had the skill, the punch and the toughness to have Klitschko's shield blasted and when your shield gets blasted, you totally rely on your chin which is the same to say... In this case...

 

Klitschko would win this fight at the staredown. Wlad would knock him out.

 

Brewster and Purrity losses were due to exhaustion. Brewster actually never decked Klitschko despite landing a few flush shots. The knockdown against Williamson was a flash one, as Klitschko absolutely wasn't hurt. The only time when Klitschko got really hurt by a left hook was against southpaw Corrie Sanders.

 

Prime Cooney 79-82. Was a wrecking machine. He swarmed his opponents early threw that hook like a whip, and knocked guys out cold.
He would take wlad out inside 2 rounds. Klitsko would be so concerned about the left hook he wouldnt throw anything lethal himself.
Cooneys lefthooks would hammer klits ribs forcing his hands down to protect himself, leaving his chin out there....BOOOM, lights out klit down and out in 2.

 

I don't see it going any other way myself. However, I would guess that Wlad lasts at least 3-4 rounds. Believe me I am no fan of Wlad, but I think he could go at least that long. In any case, Cooney wins by early to mid stoppage/Knockout in my mind.
