Wlad didn't throw 5 power hooks in 2 seconds against Ray Austin. He threw a great left hook, then a follow up, but the others had absolutely nothing in them. Go and watch it again. He had no leverage at all. He was right up against Austin, who was pressed up against the ropes. Wlad's right hand was touching Austin's back. He was at such an angle, that he wasn't able to generate any power. You can argue that he threw 4/5 hooks with intent, but they weren't 4/5 power hooks. The last few shots were only taps, and the last one missed completely. Look at the video that I've posted of Ali. He threw blistering combinations when his opponent was stood in the centre of the ring, which was much faster and more impressive.
Check Adam Booth's interview post-fight. Said Wlad was much faster than they anticipated and Haye routinely was beaten to the punch in the trades. Booth said Haye stopped listening to his instructions around round 4-5 after he realized Wlad's hands are too fast for him to try counter Wlad. That was their plan all along and it didn't work.
Booth was referring to Wlads general movement. There was no trades. Every time Haye lunged in , Wlad either grabbed him or leaned back. Haye wasn't good coming forward , so Wlad was able to peck him away with an occasional right hand There was nothing in that fight. Wlad barely took the rounds. Both men threw barely anything nor landed anything.
What people were saying that, Brits? Their drunken opinions don't count. Everything looks fast when you've chugged two dozens pints of ale. All you need to know about Haye is that he ducked LHW Bernard Hopkins offer to meet him at HW. :yep
A fantasy for Hopkins, but a nightmare for Haye. There is a good reason why of all the HW candidates, Hopkins ID'ed and called out Haye. Haye wanted no part of a Ruiz like exposure.
why would he throw uppercuts and body shots? He was trained not to for a reason....I don't have to use that sequence to show how fast he was,his one two in almost 99% of his fights would land more than any other HW in history including Tyson,if they had a shoot out at mid range. One would be length the second speed and third technique. Theres nothing dull if hes rarly getting hit,its up to his opponents to hit him not take chances to please the crowd, hes there to win. Ali didn't throw body shots either,as a matter fact MOST Ali fights he doesn't have a high punch count unless it goes past mid rounds or the distance! This is because he was a runner and defensive fighter,no Ali clips will ever fool me I know what im talking about...was Ali exciting in comparison to Wald? Well I see more action in wlad fights, theres less moving around in the ring...unless his opponent is running away...I see more power shots thrown ,many rough clinching, yes his one two can be repetitive but at least they are fighting.Ali had MORE exciting fights than Wlad but in general were they really better? I don't see it,unless Ali is struggling...and that's not Wlads fault that he doesn't struggle. Watching Wlad hit someone with the his jab and seeing like they were just hit with a bowling ball is entertaining to me moreso than a fighter who builds points up round after round, playing the try and hit me game while I circle around the ring, but that's just me.... Wlad clearly threw 5 shots...in under 2 sec...now I know I can count, thats not up for debate! You also cant put hand picked vids of other fighters to subtract fom his speed....in particulara 15 yr old Tyson who is about 190 pounds in that video wearing NO gloves,my vids clearly show what hes capable of. Speed in general the only guy you can really make a case for is Tyson and select few...:good
BHOP is always serious, but Haye ducked him. If Ruiz was still around he wouldn't have been scared and stepped up like a man. :smoke
Ali is custom made for a Wlad. Wlad worried about power hitters/aggressive fighters getting into shoot out contest with him is certain loss for ANYONE. No version of Ali beats him,and the 60's one would be even easier for him. Speed is not a factor Wlad weather faster or not,i think he was with one/two combos, and that's all he would need,Ali has Never been in the ring with a 6'6 speedster other than Terrell who looks slow mo compared to Wlad...he was also 30 pounds lighter, and less skilled. Wlads superior jab would mess up Ali and its all over. The power would be to great for Ali,add in Wlads lethal left hook after that jab, forget it! Tyson.....that's a 50/50 for me.Tyson matches well with him and had the greatest defense ive ever seen,as well as counter punching.the thing is can he overcome 6'6 giant and the best jab hes never had to face? Speed?Slight edge to Tyson but you also have to judge who fights their fight, will Tyson run into a Wlad jab/right hand/left hook? Tyson unless on the inside doesn't land first,i actually think both need a fast k.o here, within 4/5 roounds...the longer klitchko goes he still has better one punch k.o power in later rounds...if Tyson doesn't k.o wlad quick and lets him set his usual pace,it is that much harder? I always flip flop on this ,I still learn from this match up so ,I would give slight edge to..... Tyson...he was a talent I haven't seen since.
uncletermite, Why would he throw uppercuts? Why wouldn't he if the opportunity is there? He's the best HW on the planet. It's better to use the uppercut, rather than to clinch and lean. Of course people are going to think his fights are dull, if he's content to lean and clinch, instead of opening up fully. You're getting very defensive here. I'm a fan of Wlad's. But I can see why he unfortunately gets labelled by some fans as a robot etc. You're obviously a huge fan of Wlad's, and you're entitled to your opinion. Personally, I wouldn't say that on a whole, Wlad's fights were more exciting. You're right about Ali not throwing body shots. But my point was, Wlad had much more variation before he was knocked out three times. Since 2004, he's been fighting very cautiously, which is why a certain section of fans have criticised him. I'm not saying he didn't throw 5 hooks. But you're talking as though it was an incredible feat that guys like Ali couldn't replicate. Your training clips of Wlad don't show that his speed is comparable to Ali and Mike's.
