The late 2000s and early 2010s were Wlad's peak. Technically he was on another level to Wilder. Wlad was a hard hitter but not at the level of Wilder. His chin was also a bit suspect but probably not as bad as people make it out to be. He could outjab Wilder comfortably but could he take the right hand when it lands? I'm not so sure. He'd have to take Wilder out early. I can see a counter left hook doing the job a la Pulev. We've seen that Wilder does have a good chin and tremendous power. Those two attributes alone will cause issues for any fighter, even the best. I know he ducked Wlad in 2015 and was apparently schooled in sparring but he was not at his peak then. How do you see this one going?
Wilder can absolutely ice him but I'll roll with Wlad. His jab has more than enough pop to keep Wilder at bay who is pretty low output as it is. So long as Wlad doesn't get reckless he should be ok
Wlad wins 8 out of 10 times. Wilder can absolutely blitz him but normally wlad would ko him before the 7th round
I would favor Wladimir, but unfortunately he didn't fight anyone really good during his actual peak. Not his fault, but this is why I don't understand people complaining about the current era of HWs. It's so much better! The new and improved Wlad had a transitional fight against Peter in 2005. His peak began thereafter for about 6-7 years, into his mid-30s. Opponents: Byrd Brock Austin Brewster II S. Ibragimov Thompson I Rahman Chagaev Chambers Peter II Haye Mormeck Thompson II Haye was billed as the "big" fight of this era, which is of course a complete joke. But people were desperate for anything exciting happening at HW. Again, be thankful that we now have four good yet vulnerable (and other than Fury, not negative) championship-level fighters, with other solid guys like Ortiz, Whyte, Parker, Povetkin behind them.
Wlad by KO. Much more skilled fighter with great balance and excellent boxing IQ. Yes, Wilder could KO him (and anybody else) had he catched him cleanly with a right hand, but Wilder himself definitely wouldn't be able to tale Wlad's right hand or left hook too.
That list you’ve made is better than the top 10 nowadays. You should be comparing that to Wilders list of opponents, because if you think Wlads was bad then WTF have Wilders been.
Wlad by KO. He already made Wilder look stupid in sparring and I believe that Wlad's chin is underrated and Wilder's power is overrated. Wladimir got up from the canvas 3 times to beat Peter and Wilder mostly KOed glass jaw fighters like Shpilka, Washington, Ortiz etc.. He couldn't drop Dupuah. Couldn't even put away tiny Charlie Z. Even if Wilder catches Wlad, Klitschko would recover and KO him.
BS. Keep in mind that this wasn't a snapshot of any top ten; it's a list of opponents over the course of 6 years. I don't blame Wladimir for it because he could only fight who was available, but that's a really poor stretch of comp. I agree with you on the poor quality of Wilder's early defenses, but his past four opponents have been top 3, top 5, top 6 (Ortiz II), top 10. And now he's about to fight No. 1. Fury and Ortiz are better than any of Wladimir's opponents for six years. And Wilder fought them both in 2018. Even Breazeale would be favored over most of the Wlad guys. It was a dreadful time at HW.
